John Kerry: The Arab Hope?

Few Americans are prepared to turn the other cheek for Osama bin Laden and societies that have helped breed, raise and finance him.

That's the rub- just getting the anti-war leftist vote won't win it for Kerry.
He's got to draw enough people that hate Bush but want to continue the War On Terror.

Therefore, you have Kerry saying that while the war is primarily a law enforcement and intelligence issue, use of the military is not off the table.

Personally, I think he wishes the whole issue would go away and he could focus on the usual Democratic priorities such as social issues and jobs.

But thats not going to happen.

But the problem that Arabs and some in the "old Europe" have is that they do not yet understand that, for a majority of Americans, the War on Terror is a real war - not a pose that can be altered with a change of administration.

Amen. This is why a sKerry presidency would be.....scary :neener:

Unfortunately, Clinton viewed OBL and Al Queda as a "police" issue as well. His admin spent nearly his entire 2nd term debating on how best to take him down. Now before anyone gets upset here, I am not pinging on Clinton in this instance. Al Queda was and is a horse of different color when it comes to counteracting. They are not like any other terror group out there.

Clinton wanted to take down OBL too, late in his 2nd term. But lack of intel and concerns over collateral damage prevented any moves. He did not have the best of relations with the CIA or the military and that certainly didn't help him.

Sure Clinton and his admin made mistakes, but hindsight is 20/20. Reagan and Bush Sr screwed up too. As soon as the Russians vacated Afghanistan, so did we, leaving a political vacuum in its wake.

All were blind to the danger of radical Islamists until late in the 90's (too late).

GWB's admin perhaps took too long to get a policy on OBL on track, but GWB wanted OBL "taken out" in early 2001. But the inertia of government being what it is, well...

What I'm getting at is this, Al Queda and its brethren are not a matter for the "police". They are best fought with the military, not the courts. They must be destroyed, quickly and ruthlessly. I don't believe Kerry's admin will go that route IMHO.

For a great read on OBL/Afghanistan/the Taliban, read "Ghost Wars" by Steve Coll. He goes to great lengths to simply present facts and events in an unbiased manner IMO. Anyone who is interested in how we arrived at the present state of affairs should read this.

Kerry wants my guns and take home pay and besides, he's an elitist snob. So why should I vote for him? :)
