While browsing some local ads, I found a .577 Snider for sale....guy wanted $150 but said he would take $125....wood has been refinished but otherwise a really nice gun. Trapdoor style with flip up ladder sight and brass blade front. All the screws and the buttplate have original screws with the proofmarks on every one....I'm goin to have some fun with this puppy!! I love it!

Sorry for the Canadian money, lol.....thats a 30-30 cartridge in the comparison photo.....577 Snider is HUGE!

You stole that. Nice looking rifle I am not sure what its worth but its a far cry more than you paid. Well done

I am going to refinish it a bit, I hate the stock color (too light for my liking).....going to stain it darker, and give it a good cleaning, and also going to sporterize it a bit more by shortening the forestock about 5"......it will be awhile before I shoot this beast, since ammo is rare as hens teeth. I only have one bullet for it that came with it when i bought it....I have looked everywhere to find factory loaded ammo for it and this is all I found....make sure you are sitting down when you look at the price!!!!.....

I have researched this cartridge and I can reload my own by using 24 ga brass shotgun shells and cutting them to size, forming a slight neck and using a newsprint wad.....might take me a bit to get some done but rest assured it will happen!! Stay tuned for the refinish job pics and the homemade cartridge pics!!

By the look of prices I see for such things in Canada you DID steal it. But it took the seller to agree so I guess I don't need to call the boys in the red coats.... :D

Post up some reviews of what it's like to shoot once you get it to the range. In the meantime I'd say that it's a very nice looking gun.

Could it be that someone refinished the stock and that's why the collector value plummeted? Is that part of the reason you got it so cheap?

Well it is pretty much been hit by bubba but for that price I would be happy as a clam and looking for parts to try to restore the thing. Looks to be a later engineer or artilery model and worth some $$$ if you can find a stock and trim for it vs hacking it up more.

Correct -- it was more than refinished wood. It has been awfully sporterized. Look, anything that goes bang is worth that price, and it has the added benefit of being a shooter. Enjoy!
