As the title state I got a new gun! I know it's a little late to ask questions since I've already spent the money but I still do want to check some things out about the gun. I have seen that the internals and the metal that they are made out of is almost identical to high end brands but they sell for much cheaper. Is there a reason for this because I got one that was customized already for under 1000. How does this gun compared to a Colt since Colt is the name brand that everyone compares with anyway. Does anyone know if this has a threaded barrel so a silencer can be placed on it? How reliable how you found this gun to be? Where are some great websites to get accessories from and what do you recommend to look at? Along accessories I am looking for the best flip up front and rear sights that I could get for the gun (one that won't move easily when bumped and provides a clear sight picture) and brands of nice reflex sights for the gun (one that provide a little different dot than just the regular red dot and are fog proof sturdy etc. Lastly about this new upper (300 Blackout) and the surefire magazines (ones that hold like 60 rounds), can the M&P receiver fit these upgrades? Thanks for all the help! If there is forum threads already out there on this stuff (most likely) please just send them my way, I don't mind to read. Oh and I'm new to the AR15 so if anyone has any advice that will be fine as well.... as long as it's free :)

S&W is probably the best of the "Consumer grade" ARs. I would not take one over a Colt, DD, etc. However they are good for the money I have had one and it shot well. My biggest complaint was the 1/9 twist barrel.

As for your other question, you can use any standard upper you want and same for any Mag. Although I would say Buyer beware. Some people have had good luck with them. Others have had problems. At my last class one of my friends had one. It worked pretty good in one gun and the other hated it. Both were high quality ARs.

I like the S&W a lot. Haven't had a single issue with mine, but I only run m855 through it. Not one failure yet.

Like any quality AR-15, take good care of it and it will give you good results. Don't abuse it, IMO, simply because its cheaper.

For $400+ you are basically missing out on a dust cover and forward assist. The sporter is a 1 in 8 twist, which is my favorite currently available for 5.56.

I threw a magpul MOE kit on mine, so total cost with iron sights and no optic was about $700. Not bad for a weapon that hasn't failed once so far and is quite accurate with stock internals.

Mine came with a fixed front sight and the magpul flipup rear sight. As I plan to use these as backups, I am not changing them. Other than the optic, it doesn't need anything else. A sling is nice, but that is up to you. I got the magpul MOE kit straight off of their website.

I'm a big fan of the hybrid grip-bipods as well. I have the mako one as well as a grippod. I put the grippod on the SW15 and it looks/feels/functions well. All of this can be bought off amazon.com. There are knockoff grippods as well, though I can't/won't vouch for their quality.

Here's probably the most important piece of advice for the AR to keep running well: Keep the bolt and bolt carrier group lubed well. She should run forever, as long as you do that.

Magazines are also points of failure; get good ones like Magpul and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the advice. Kwelz, what are you talking about some hating the upper? Did it not fit/function properly? What is wrong with the 1:9 twist in the barrel. I read that the 1:9 twist barrel has less accuracy but has a chrome line barrel that will last longer. My other question relies on the next most important operation: cleaning the gun. What should I do to clean this gun properly? I have never owned one of these guns so what all should be done for this gun to keep it up. I'm a stickler for keeping my guns nice and clean after shooting. ( I will also be posting this again as a separate thread to get others to look at it and give advice so you can answer to this one or to the new one. Doesn't matter) thanks for the help!
