This thread will probably be locked ASAP, but I'm needing to ask a question about where some of our gun owners are coming from, so I'm going to do it.

My question really doesn't have much to do with politics as much as the actions of gun owners.

In regards to the actions that could be taken on new gun control legislation, I wonder why there are so many Obama apologists when it comes to the issue of guns and gun control. His gun rights voting record is very clear, his comments about guns and their uses are very clear, and his website makes it very clear where he stands on the issue.

What I don't understand is why I have read numerous posts from THR members over the last 6 months wherein there is absolute denial, minimizing of the threat, or justification of actions Obama has taken in the past in regards to gun rights.

What is curious to me is I never see people in this forum apologizing for, or rationalizing the actions of other anti-gunners like Clinton, Kennedy, Schumer, Kerry, Mayor Daley, Durbin, McCarthy, Boxer, Feinstein, Mayor Bloomberg, Lautenburg, etc...

Why the difference? Hopefully this will stay open long enough to find out the rational behind some of our gun owners actions.

Like I said, just curious.

Its not that members are defending Obama's views on guns its that many members (like myself) don't see the point in continuously bitching and moaning about his views. Keep in mind that not all THR members were McCain/Palin supporters, I think it would be surprising to all of us if we knew how many THR members voted for Obama. The fact is people have the right to speak their mind on here and we should respect that even if we don't agree with their views. Remember not all THR members are conservative republicans;)

I'm certainly worried about our gun rights now that he is president but constantly complaining about how he is anti gun is not going to solve anything. Every gun owner knows that Obama is not good for gun ownership so lets set that aside and focuss more on what we can do to protect the rights that we still have. Nothing has happened yet and the only way to prevent anything from happening is to get active and support gun rights groups.

So quiet I can hear crickets chirping which leads me to believe this is the wrong place to hunt for Obama apologist. It did creep me out days before the election a thread similar to this one got wings and out pops a John Galt with 1 post cutting and pasting from an Obama talk guide how he supports the second yada yada. Guess John Galt and ilk bagged the election so I doubt you will get too much Obama is pro gun rights cheerleaders today.

What really struck me during the entire campaign two BIG issues were avoided like anthrax - gun rights and illegal immigration. My small fear is since the economy is tanking and making a sick golden goose to pay for all the promised welfare programs the one and ilk will go after guns as low lying fruit to throw to the crowd that got him the nomination. Of course that would raise concern with the crowd he conned by saying he isn't that much of a leftie moonbat after all. Will be interesting when the true Obama stands up in January.

I think it's not so much apologizing for Obama, or the rest of the libs, but rational though on the situation. For any sort of anti-gun legislation to get through it would have to pass the house and senate as well as the trip to the supreme court. There are enough Democrats from states with strong second amendment voters that know they would not get re-elected if they jumped on an openly anti-gun bill. And after all this is a job for them, and they need to be re-elected in two years. The bills to fear though are the ones with small additions that inhibit gun rights on pieces of legislation that have nothing to do with guns. If its not picked up by the media, and I doubt it would be, then they would vote for those. It would be a gradual process IMO. I hope I answered some of your questions though in a roundabout way lol

Speaking just for myself, I think all-caps multiple-exclamation-point rants just beg to made fun of, regardless of topic. And THR has certainly seen its share of those bout Obama.

We all know he's anti-gun, and we all know he'd like to enact more gun laws and may well try. But we also know that guns had nothing to do with the election and that there are far more pressing problems for him to address. And we also know that guns have been something of a third rail in the last few years. The Dems have not forgotten the last time they got their *** handed to them on the subject.

None of that means that 2A rights are safe for the next four years. It simply means that "EVERYONE BUY AN AK-47 TODAY BECAUSE COMMIE OBAMA'S IS GOING TO BAN ALL GUNS ON JANUARY 21 AND SOCIETY WILL BREAK DOWN AND THE S WILL HTF!!!!!!!" is moronic.

I'll take the bait. I voted for Obama because I'm not a single issue voter and the GOP has done nothing but gut the Constitution and destroy America's good standing in the world. We need a statesman like GHW Bush. I didn't agree with everything Bush senior did but he could lead like no one else in the past 45 years. Obama has that.

As for why people "apologize" for him, he may hate guns but there are a crapload of other issues that are coming up that need to get done. It's not in his interest to lose Congress in 2010 because he has a problem with firearms and he needs Congress to get tax cuts, healthcare and Afghanistan funding passed.

If you really want to protect your rights, send letters, faxes, and get involved in your local politics. Local politicians are usually the ones that move up the ladder to state and federal offices.
