I've finally received all the parts and assembled it into a rifle, but I need to get an action block so I can torque the barrel properly. I used a Stag Arms lower, LAR Grizzly A2 upper, a DPMS UPK, a RRA LPK, generic 6pos stock, Bushmaster 16" Lightweight Barrel (with A1 flashhider), Hogue Overmolded grip and FF Forearm, and a RRA Bolt assembly.

This is my first AR and certainly my first build.

Here's a pic:

Thanks!

I appreciate the offer, but me and a friend are going to split the cost of one since he'll need one down the road as well.

Fulton Armory has a three piece combo set for $29.95, upper action block, t handle and lower block.

Excellent. They're having a 20% off sale on tools as well. I ordered the set for $30 shipped. :D

Well done. After you build a couple you won't be able to figure out why people buy them complete.

Lot's of fun.

I just noticed that I got an A1 flashhider when I was supposed to get an A2. AFAIK, the only benefit of the A2 over the A1 is lack of dust when shooting prone. However, I haven't shot prone in many years, so I doubt it'll be an issue for me. With the A1, I don't have to worry about indexing it, so that's a benefit of it over the A2. Is there any reason to send the A1 back for an A2?

Chris

There's not really THAT much difference between the A1 and A2. Honestly, if you "use" the rifle on the ground, you'll wind up shooting the rifle holding it at an angle, anyway, so there won't really be an advantage to the A2. If you're going to get a different FS, get one of the modern, more effective suppressors (IE Phantom 5C2.)

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. I can't remember the last time I shot prone anyway, so it's not really a useful feature in itself.

El Rojo, that's a Hogue Overmolded free float tube. The area between the two shiny rings is rubber. It feels GREAT in the hand. Not exactly tacticool (no rails), but it should feel great while shooting.

Well, I got the tools I needed and tightened it up. I took it to the range Wednesday and put 110 rounds through it. It was 100% functional. I didn't have a single problem with it.
