Hi folks!

I recently the springfield 3rd gen scope mount for my Springfield Loaded M1A. Looks like great quality, came in its own case and everything. Classy.

Alright, went through all the instructions (was a tight fit, need to use that rubber mallet well, but I know it is solid at least).

Once the mount is all installed, I noticed something. The center of the mount is about 1/2" right of center of the barrel/iron sights. I understand that this can be dealt with when zeroing the scope, but does anyone know why it is not just centered with the rifle barrel?? I just wanted to make sure this is normal.

good luck with the 3rd generation mount my friend. I beat my head against the wall with one for about a year. I thought the rifle was a no shooting piece of junk but it was the mount. I finally got a Swan. There are others. Fulton Armory and Saddlock come to mine. I hope you have better luck than I did.

I agree can you return it? It honestly is the bottom of the barrel these days and way overpriced. Leapers makes an exact copy for $25. For the best bang for buck available today look here and go down to the Weaver mount for $125:

That is the best deal available. A precision machined all steel M21 Smith mount for less than the Springfield mount. The SAI one is aluminum and hopefully it works for you but it really has a bad rep and used to call for hitting it with a hammer to get it to "mold" to your receiver, no thanks.

There are multiple ways to do this right, but none of them involved the SAI mount. You spent over a grand on the rifle. No need to go cheap on the scope mount.

You can go cheap on the scope mount just make sure it is the Smith Enterprises Weaver mount.

I prefer the brookfield myself but the arms is supposed to work ok.

Good luck on the 3rd generation. I have 2 or 3 in the scrap bin along with some first generations. There is a reason springfield used to give them away.

I've got the ARMS 18 (see a pic in the "which model m1a" thread) and it went on somewhat easily, and is very solid. Honestly, I don't use the scope (SS 10x mil-dot) much, I prefer the iron sights. I do recall it was somewhat more expensive than most of the other mounts, but can't remember how much exactly.
