I was cleaing my new rollmark Colt 1991A1 the other day and noted that on the barrel was inscribed...

"Colt .45 ACP Euro"

What does that mean. I understand the the Colt and .45 ACP but what is the Euro after it. Does this mean it was made for the European market and set up for hardball only?

I have only had 1 malf. with this gun but I only shoot 230 grain ball through it. I really don't care if it is reliable with HPs or not since it is only a range gun. I was really just curious.

Thanks for any input.

Chris

Ok, I will make sure I only kill European burglars and goblins with it. I will save my VEPR for any of the Russo/Slavic Goblins and my SIGs for any Nordic/Viking invaders.

I guess that leaves my AR-15 and Remington 870 for all the run of the mill American trash that might need to be taken out.

I am SOL if any Indian, African or Pakistanis break in. I might be forced to buy an Ishapore.:D

Oh my God

What if I have any South American or Mexican banditos break in. I am so poorly armed and I never saw it before. Argentinian Mauser here I come.:D

Korean infiltrators would mean you need a Daewoo... ;)

Seriously, I couldn't tell you. Maybe SAAMI specs are a little different from European in chamber measurements or somesuch?

My first thought is that the barrel was proofed to European CIP standards, but the Europeans have a LOT of bizarre regulations. There are some countries over there that don't allow "military" chamberings like 45 Auto, 9mm Para, etc., because the little people might get upset one day, and the gov't doesn't want them to be able to use government ammo against them.

A Colt rep posts in the Colt section of 1911forum.com pretty regularly. Maybe he can help you.

From the Colt rep who posts on the 1911Forum:

Requirements for auto's shipped to Europe have a much tighter head space requirement. A gun was shipped that originally was designated for overseas distributors, or a builder mistake in assembly.

And now you know.

John beat me to the punch.

I was just going to post what I found out.

Thanks John.

The Gun shoots wonderfully and I guess it now has enough culture and snob appeal to share a place next to one of the SIGs and to be able to converse without arguing.:D

Wild Alaska,

I guess I should be like one of those Gunbroker sellers who makes you think that your average everyday Glock 17 is a rare and coveted item.

Something like....

ACT NOW!!! You will never see a gun like this. A very rare Colt 1991A1 designed for european royal sport shooters. Specially engraved Euro barrel designed for the utmost in accuracy. Maticulously assembled by the finest craft machines that money can buy. Blued by world famous Colt bluing machines. Test fired buy ultra skilled Colt bench rest robots.

This will go fast and make somebody a very nice INVESTMENT.

Bidding will start at $12,000 no reserve. Bidder to pay shipping but I will throw in three factory magazines absolutely free, a bargain like this doesn't come around every day.:D

I have a 9mm Commander with the barrel marked ".30 Luger". Apparently this was a production over run from some made for a country where 9mm is prohibited for civilians.

Stuck with .30 Luger barrels, Colt (motto: "Never throw anything away") simply rebored and rerifled them to 9mm.

Actually, I would like to have a LW commander in .30 Luger; I think it would be a fun gun, but expensive to shoot.

cslinger, No wonder my Caspian has not sold, I didnt sell it when I put the description.

Maybe you could rewrite it for me!!

When I worked behind a gun counter we had a couple colts stamped with wrong caliber. My favorite was the 44mag stamped 357mag.
