Just noticed something Odd About My Colt 1991A1, Can Anybody Clarify????

I was cleaing my new rollmark Colt 1991A1 the other day and noted that on the barrel was inscribed...

"Colt .45 ACP Euro"

What does that mean. I understand the the Colt and .45 ACP but what is the Euro after it. Does this mean it was made for the European market and set up for hardball only?

I have only had 1 malf. with this gun but I only shoot 230 grain ball through it. I really don't care if it is reliable with HPs or not since it is only a range gun. I was really just curious.

Ok, I will make sure I only kill European burglars and goblins with it. I will save my VEPR for any of the Russo/Slavic Goblins and my SIGs for any Nordic/Viking invaders.

I guess that leaves my AR-15 and Remington 870 for all the run of the mill American trash that might need to be taken out.

I am SOL if any Indian, African or Pakistanis break in. I might be forced to buy an Ishapore.

Seriously, I couldn't tell you. Maybe SAAMI specs are a little different from European in chamber measurements or somesuch?

My first thought is that the barrel was proofed to European CIP standards, but the Europeans have a LOT of bizarre regulations. There are some countries over there that don't allow "military" chamberings like 45 Auto, 9mm Para, etc., because the little people might get upset one day, and the gov't doesn't want them to be able to use government ammo against them.

Requirements for auto's shipped to Europe have a much tighter head space requirement. A gun was shipped that originally was designated for overseas distributors, or a builder mistake in assembly.

I have a 9mm Commander with the barrel marked ".30 Luger". Apparently this was a production over run from some made for a country where 9mm is prohibited for civilians.

Stuck with .30 Luger barrels, Colt (motto: "Never throw anything away") simply rebored and rerifled them to 9mm.

Actually, I would like to have a LW commander in .30 Luger; I think it would be a fun gun, but expensive to shoot.

When I worked behind a gun counter we had a couple colts stamped with wrong caliber. My favorite was the 44mag stamped 357mag.
