Just picked up a Browning Hi-Power.

Just got back from a buddy's house and picked up this jem for $300.

Its a Belgium Browning Hi-Power with a stainless mag and pachmeyer grips.

Condition is about 90% with a few minor scratches around the trigger area.

Little dirty so Im gonna break it down all the way possible and clean her up before I take it out on a test run.

Looking for info for extra mags, possibly a new rear sight and new grips. The ones on it now are a little worn.

Also, didnt come with a book so if anyone got some detail breakdown info or a link to get it that would be cool.

I wish I had the link but someone posted a suitable link quite recently in a thread ... similar sort of question. I wonder if a search could bring it up.

Steve camp has available some excellent stuff he's written for BHP's ... well worth considering. You should find a thread in ''for sale'' where he posted not so long ago.

Great deal. The Belgian High Powers around my neck of the woods are going for over a grand.

You stole yours.

By the way, don't ever get rid of that sight. Change it out if you want, but keep it for if you sell the gun. If you use those sights keep an eye out for the adjustment screws. They tend to loosen up and fall out.

Thanks for all the info. It helped alot!

Broke it down today and cleaned all the gunk out of it. Looks like it hasnt been cleaned in a long time.

I didnt pull the trigger or hammer sections apart yet. Looks like it needs it though so I might take it to the Gunsmith for an overhaul.

Wear seems minimal and the barrel is in great shape. Grips need to go though. They are pretty worn out.

It has a steel magazine with no sight holes for shells. Floorplate is a little beat up so I will replace that as well. Along with new mag spring.

Plans for this include, a new rear sight,(will keep the old one) a couple of new magazines, ambi safety and extended slide release to make it more left handed user friendly. Also gonna get some Pachmeyer finger groove grips.

Now for the holster. Gonna put this fellah in a quality leather rig. It deserves to ride in leather and not Kydex.

It appears that the trigger and hammer have some jewling on it.

One last question, how do I go about finding the "Born on Date"? Is there a site that I can go to to find out when it was manufactured? Or is the 1st two numbers of the SN (72C) have something to do with it?
 
I don't know exactly where, but www.fnhipower.com has a Serial Number decoder that you can find if you explore a little bit.

That looks like a very nice gun. And for $300! You thief, you! :D Let us know how it shoots when you get a chance, would you?

Nice, it's like the twin of the one I have. 78 is mine.

Please be careful on the mods that you do. It really is valuable.

Of course if you just want a shooter, you have one of the best.

OK, Im really jealous. I cant find a real hipower around here for under 6-7 hundred dollars. Thats an awesome find. Let us know how she shoots.
 
Before he moved a couple of years ago my next door neighbor sold me his virtually NIB (shot it once) 1994 vintage High Power with 2 standard capacity magazines for $300.

I really couldn't afford it at the time, but I knew that deal was far, far too good to pass up.

I'd had only limited experience with a High Power up to that point, but it didn't take me long at all to fall hard for it. :)
 
Lennyjoe! I would run and hide that puppy, because once your friend finds out that you "stole" that pistol from him/her, they are going be calling the cops :D

Way to go. Best deal I've heard about in a long time. A very nice gun. I have a nickel one a few years older, with the same type of sights and I will never sell it.
 
Nice Price!!! Had a "T" series in my hands today. Boy was that sweet.! It wasn't for sale and I didn't have any money but, if it was for sale I would have found the money!!!! Now I have Browing on the Brain. I hate when that happens! I should just stay in the house and stay off the computer! Enjoy Lennyjoe!!!!!
 
Sweet deal....I thought I did good getting a like brand new (50 rnds fired) hard chromed Hi-Power for 550. I need to reevaluate my friends I think...:D
