I bought this K31 a couple of years ago when they were about $175 (not the $89 guns they once were, but less than the $250+ they go for now). It's walnut and in good shape, even the stock. No tag, unfortunately. I'm not good enough with irons to bring out the potential of the gun, so it got a Swiss Products aluminum clamp on mount and a Nikon Team Primos 3x9. The iron sights can still be used. I don't know the brand of bipod, but the hole in it is the same size and pitch as the action screw, so I just ran a longer bolt up through both. The cheekpiece at some point needs to be replaced with a decent leather one (czechmauseritis on the swiss rifle forums makes some very nice ones). A Swiss Products recoil pad spacer to bring the curved contour of the stock to a flat face to accept standard recoil pads. I happened to have the Morgan pad sitting around and stuck it on, adjusted to a position comfortable for prone shooting. I've got some 165 grain Nosler Ballistic tips loaded and ready to go. Not as pretty as it once was, but I'll get more use out of it this way and with the exception of a couple of 1/8 in holes drilled for the butt of the stock it's 100% reversible. When Swiss Products gets their left hand op rod on the market I'll have to pick one up for my grandfather, or my future children in the unfortunate case they're born with the same deficiency.

Many of the items were purchased used on THR, so total cost in this configuration is about $450. That includes $175 for the rifle, $150 for the scope, and $50 for the mount.

Nice! I was fortunate enough to find a nice K31 with mount and 6x Sightron scope already mounted for $300 (I felt like I was stealing walking out the door with that). It shoots well under 1 MOA at 200 yards with my handloads. Consider getting this if the bipod is not working out so close in: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=24391/Product/SCHMIDT_RUBIN_K31_BIPOD_ADAPTER

I had the curved recoil pad adapter and an ill fitting limbsaver I screwed on, though I felt a little pad about drilling into the wood. The limbsaver slip on pad actually works very well in all regards, including conforming to the curvature of the buttplate.

Nice looking rifle, with the bi-pod mounted like that it resembles a Zfk55. Are you satisfied with the clamp on mount? I want to scope one of my two K-31's. I've equipped both with sight correctors but they are still open irons and hard for my eyes to deal with.

Zfk on original bi-pod.

The butt pad issue on mil-surps can be a pita, I have about two dozen rifles with metal butt plates and instead of slip on pads or modifying the original stocks I went with a shooting shirt and a slip in Browning reactor pad. Significantly reduces felt recoil. This lady made the shirts for me and is very reasonable and does A++ work.

I think the aluminum clamp on mount is the way to go. They're very well made, install in seconds, and supposedly keep very close to zero when removed and replaced. The makers state the only reason the mount is made in steel is because people demanded it. Others have had problems drilling and tapping the receiver.

I tried the slip on pad, but it's kind of ugly and mine tore after not too long. The metal plate just slips off my shoulder. The optimal solution would have been an integral cheek riser with a rough out leather covered recoil pad that laces on. The spacer was $12 and I already had the pad so that's what I used.

A sporter stock would be a good option also in conjunction with the mount and scope.

That Pine Tree Sports Wear looks pretty good too. I bet it'd make some good Christmas presents.

I just closed a deal on a pair of K31, and am really looking forward to them. Everything I have heard tells me that these rifles are gems. While with milsurps as a rule I shoot iron sight, I have a feeling that I may have to scope one of them to see what it can really do beyond these 52 year old eyes.
