I have a late war Walther K43 rifle (no bolt hold on the bolt carrier) that I would like to be able to shoot. It does not have matching numbers, and the Waffenampt (spell?) stamps are intact.

It is in rough shape, some gouges in the stock, stock is dirty, a little rust in the muzzle end of the barrel, barrel is dirty but the rifling looks to be alright, missing front sight hood, bluing/finish is brown in color, loose upper handguard with hairline crack down the middle (does not stretch more than a fourth down the handguard, so I'm not that concerned), barrel band is loose that holds the upper handguard in place (I am not sure if this is normal, to be slightly loose), worst trigger pull I have ever felt but I heard this can be adjusted, and the action not very smooth.

I can take the stock off, the screws are in good shape as the push pins in the screws are not broken, but I cannot field strip it. I have looked at descriptions on web pages, but this task seems a little daunting because parts can go flying and without the bolt hold it is a little harder.

So my question is, what parts would you replace to keep the value of the original parts? Would you get a new stock set? New springs?

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to get all the info out there so anyone could help.

Thanks for any info!

P.S. Can't get any pics, cause I don't have a camera.

You will definitly need new springs and an adjustable gas piston kit. All the info can be found on the GK43 forum.

I have 2 G43s and a G41 that get shot and they can be very accurate rifles with good ammo. The adjustable gas piston kit will also keep them from beating themselves apart as they had larger than required gas ports to ensure reliability in all climates. Mine when adjusted will drop empties about 3ft away and not beat the brass up in the process...

Post pics when you can!
