I'm looking for a K98 original stock. mine is an original 98 with German trigger and all german. It has a sport stock on it however.

Do I have to worry about large ring/ small ring stock (whatever that means) for the German ones? or is that a eastern Euro, chiliean mauser thing or whatever.

i see some on ebay that are original K98s. I am hoping to just get one of those and not deal with matching up the rings. can anyone verify?

A k98 is a large ring(yes it makes a difference). Any k98 stock should fit. You will need some hardware for the original stock also. Here is an exploded view of a 98k. It will show the parts needed to put your rifle back to original configuration.<http://www.gunpartscorp.com/catalog/Products.aspx?catid=11950>

much oblige ... better late than never.

i finally gave up trying to get it cheap and just bought one on ebay minus the barrel bands.
will any mauser ones fit?

also the illustrations are hard to read ...
and what is the bands exactly? 2 bands that slide over the forearm and the stock itself ?

... also is it just the 2 screws on the bottom/trigger mech. that hold the thing to the stock?

Bands: there may be one or two, depending on hand guard type, for the guard, and an upper band that attaches near the muzzle integral with a bayonet lug.

Screws: 2 large screws are all that hold the receiver/trigger guard in the stock. There may be secondary small screws that act to lock the first two. Turk mausers may have band screws.

The real German KAR 98s were a large-ring, Full Length, Mauser action.
So are the Czech made VZ-24s which were a direct licensed made copy.
And of course any M98s made for South American countries during the 1920 and 30.. etc by DWM.

The Yugo 48s and M-48A are a large ring, Intermediate length action. So are the Mexican 1910s and 1924 actions.

The Model 91s, 93, 95s and Swede m-94, m-96 & m/38s are all small ring actions.
