I've really spent some time recently into considering a great CCW pistol. The two that I'm considering to buy at the moment are the CW40 and the PPS. I was wondering about how the two compare to each other. I am concerned with how both shoot (how they operate with trigger feel, point-ability, etc.) Any info would be greatly appreciated :)

You may just have to try to shot both to deside. the kahr is byfar lighter, overall thinner. But basicaly the same size. rated trigger pull is the same but I know how smooth the kahrs trigger is and they do tend to be more controlable ,but at 4oz lighter it my feel the same under recoil. Price on the kahr is around 425 or less it seems around here. maybe less is some say prices are comeing down a bit. If you have a MI gun forum maybe some kahr and pps owner can be found to try there handguns. To me the 40 's snappier than I enjoy shooting enough to be a proficient with it.. I got to also shot a friends cw45 and it is easier to shot over the 40sw. I own a cw9 and cm9 and carry 124gr GD +P loads.. loveum. Good luck

I’ve got zero experience with the .40, but I have fired a CW9 and own a PPS9. I considered the CW9 before choosing the PPS. Both IMHO are well made, I put probably 100 rounds through the CW9 (Friends) and now have about 1200 through my PPS9.

They’re about the same size, the PPS is slightly larger and CW9 is lighter by about 4oz. The trigger on the CW9 is very smooth, but with slightly longer pull and with a longer reset than the PPS. Recoil is about the same, or if there is a difference I can’t really tell.

It’s a strictly personal thing, but I like the PPS better. Once the trigger smooths (about 200 rds, and some lube) out its pretty good, with a pretty short reset. It’s a quick shooting gun, maybe the extra weight helps, but I seem to shoot it better and faster than the CW9. To me it feels and shoots more like a service pistol than a small CCW gun and to me it points very well. I also like the sights on the PPS more, large dots, with plenty of daylight on the sides of the front blade.

One pro and con for the PPS are the magazines. Great design, I like how the different capacities/lengths change how the gun feels and conceals. It literally goes from a sub-compact with the 6 round to a thin service pistol with the 8 round. It becomes a thin compact single stack with the capacity of my SIG P6 just by swapping mags. The con is the cost, they’re expensive, but how many you need for a CCW pistol is the question. I’ve got 4 now, and will probably buy a couple more.

I've shot the PPS .40 and really liked it. I may get one myself. The trigger felt great, the sights were good, and I shot it very well. The gun is a little snappy, and from what I read, needs alot of break in to get it to work properly. From the short time I spent shooting it, I would have to agree with Chuck's assements. It feels good in the hand. I don't have any first hand experience with the Kahr. Hope this helped some.

I can't speak of the CW40, only handled on at LGS. I did buy a PPS in 9mm felt better and it did not need much break in at all. I bought it when for when a 1911 CCO is to hard to conceal. I have 600+ round threw the PPS and not one single issue. I bought the 6 and 8 round mags. The 7 that comes with it is a good compromise, the six makes it disappear when concealed and the 8 makes it feel like a full size.

I primarily shoot 45 ACP and I went for the 9m over the .40 cal. I use 9mm+Ps and it is very controllable with very quick follow ups. When I tried the .40 I could not get a follow up as quick, might be a different story for you.

I have a 40 PPS and my brother has the CW 40. For both of us the PPS is more accurate than the Kahr. Either would be a fine weapon.

thank you for the input. The ideal CCW pistol search is an ongoing process. I found another pistol that is pretty similar in size and weight to the CW40 & PPS....that is the M&P 40 compact. The M&P is a little bit wider and slightly longer. I'm strongly considering all three pistols. i better make my way down to the regional large sporting goods store sometime soon, I would like to handle all 3 and compare them. Anyone else have any other pistols they might suggest that would fit the bill for CCW that's in this size category??
