So I'm in the market for a very small decent 9mm.
The point is I want to be able to put it in my pocket sometimes.

Looking at kel-tec PF9, Diamondback DB9, Kahr PM9. Well I wasn't looking too hard at the PM9 because of price. But then I saw there was a used one. I think I can get it for $525 otd. Doing some background research on the serial number (VA####) and it is an early model 02-03 and it was part of the barrel recall.

Is this too much money for an older model?
Is it it worth the hassle of finding out if it has been done?
It is very good condition, they are asking $575.00 for it.
It's almost 10 years old. Is a Kahr PM9 that good?
Should I just get the PF9 and buy lots or 9mm and be done with it?

There's no doubt that the PM9 is a far superior pistol to the DB9 or PF9. That's an OK price, but they can be had new online for $560 + shipping and transfer, so I would probably pass. I wouldn't worry about the age as long as everything's in good shape.

That said, a new CM9 can be had for considerably less and isn't much different than the PM9. I bought mine for $409 + tax.

I personally would not buy a Kahr of that vintage used. Kahr has its fair share of reported issues with guns from that timeframe.

If it were me I would get a NIB CM9. They are a much better value IMHO. You loose one mag which is the only real down side to the budget Kahr. The other differences are dovetailed sights and poly rifling which on a gun the size of a CM9 don't matter much IMHO.

If you are paying $50 for a transfer you need to get a better LGS. They are raping you. :what:

I bought my PM9 this past January equipped with the night sights for $655.00.
You are so close to the price of a brand new fully warranted PM9 that unless your money is really tight then new might be the better choice.
Of course as was mentioned there is always the CM9.
But I must be up front even if the CM model was out when I bought mine I still would have gone with the PM because of the night sights.

Edit to add...That price of 655 did not include sales tax and there was no transfer fee.

I'd go for a new CM9 at about $400 instead. The DB9 would be my second choice, though it's somewhat unproven.

That is pretty steep, but not as bad a Gander Mountain: $70! No thank you.

I have a PM9 and the wife has a CM9. If I had to do it over again I would get a CM9 over the PM9. That said, if you want night sights you may want to go the PM route - dovetailed front on the PM and pinned on the CM.

The thing I would do is buy the CM9 and replace the slide stop with one for a PM9 (bar stock used in the PM vs MIM in the CM). The extra mag the PM comes with is the goofy 7 rd extended one that I have no use for anyway, so.......

YMMV

Also to add that as Wow6599 mentioned that the PM comes with that extra goofy 7 round magazine which is the ONLY cause of my PM not to feed reliably.
I wont even use it any more and several others over at Khar Talk have had issues with it as well.
Mine has never had any sort of malfunction using the 6 round magazine.
And so far has fed, fired, and ejected every WWB,Federal,Blazer,Remington UMC,and PMC fmj I have put in it.
Now at 300 rounds it's time to start the hollow point campaign to see what it likes or does not like.
My bet is anything.

Only the LEVER is MIM, not the actual slide stop.

There is no practical or functional reason to replace the MIM lever on a Kahr.

Great.
Now go see Wally and purchase two 100 round value packs of WWB and break it in.
Truthfully mine was pretty much totally broken in after 50-60 rounds put through it.
Also get on the Khar website and familiarize yourself with the disassembly and cleaning.
Pay particular attention to removing and replacing the slide stop pin.
You will soon be a happy camper.

Racking the slide around 500 times and keeping it well lubed before shooting it really helps break it in as well. I suggest wearing some work gloves for that though (for racking the slide many times, those slide serrations are pretty sharp).

The price there goes up and down from week to week. If you don't like that price wait a week or two and it will likely go back down.
