Is the gun show at the KCI Expo center scheduled for this weekend any good? I see they are put on by RK Gunshows and have a few a year.

I'm thinking about driving an hour and a half to go and just wanted your thoughts. Lots of guns or lots of junk?

Thanks.

RK shows have a somewhat spotty reputation.

They about drove the Topeka KS show into the ground with high tables rent, and $10 bucks a head to get in.
They turned it mostly into a T-Shirt, Jerky, & Ninja Sword show after they took over.

But I just went again to one last Saturday, and all the dealers were back, and a more reasonable $8 buck entry fee. I still liked it better at $5 or $6 bucks, but that show last weekend was worth it for a change.

The two shows you don't want to miss at KCI are the July and Jan Missouri Vally Arms Collectors National shows.
They are really something!!

As for RK this weekend?
Your guess is as good as mine!
But I'm not going, and I only live 40 miles away!

The last RK show I went to at the Expo was sometime in November. Admission price was $11 and the RK website gives a $1 off admission coupon.

The RK shows typically have the same old vendors. Usually the best shows are right before deer season in November, shows in December before Christmas, and shows in January right after Christmas. I'd say with the show being this close to Christmas, there will be some pretty good stuff and some pretty decent prices because they know people will be coming in with money and looking for Christmas presents. Probably not a lot of "tire-kickers" coming in and just picking up all their stuff and putting it back down. I'm going out of town this weekend or I would probably go. Sometimes I even get a table and set out some of my own guns and my grips. It's generally a good time.

The MVACA shows (one in the winter and one in the summer) are larger shows and typically have twice as many vendors.

I agree that the MVAC show next month is fun - it's like a 'gun museum' where you can buy the display items. But these expo shows have their place too, esp. if you're shopping for rougher 'shooter' grade guns or new guns rather than collector grade. Or could use a ninja sword.
Swing over on 435 to the west side of town, hit Cabela's and get some BBQ at the nearby Jake Edwards while you're in town. Pick up one of our Boulevard Tank 7 beer 4 packs while you're here, too. I don't think it's being marketed far out of town yet. It is an awesome brew.

Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like I might skip this one and hit up the one in Jan.

As for the brew I will have to look for it next time I'm in town. Have you tried Boulevard's Amber? It my new favorite from them.

Yep, the Amber is very good. The Tank 7 is awesome - my new favorite. I'll admit everyone's taste buds are different, so YMMV. They've released a few other 'Smokestack' premium brews in 12 oz 4 packs, stuff like 6th Glass, Dark Truth Stout etc...so keep an eye peeled. Enjoy the trip next month.

KC Gun Show

Even though I live in Colorado I have been to several KC Shows when i visit my son who lives in KC. I thought they were worth going to but then that is a matter of what you are looking for likely. Its been my experience that gun shows are usually the worst place to buy a firearm.

They usually are if you only look at dealer tables. I like to look at the tables that are collections of individuals. They usually have the better prices and are willing to negotiate. I find that I spend more time looking to see what the people walking around are carrying rather than what is on the tables. That's where the deals are!

Bought a nickel Colt Diamondback from a guy while standing in line to get into the show for $300. Walked in the show and sold it to another guy for $600 within the first 20 minutes.

And if anyone is planning on going to the show in KC the first weekend in February, look me. I've got a table.
