Kel-Tec KSG: Your Thoughts?

Maverick223,
I hear you but why the Steyr AUG is legal in NY and the Keltec RFB is not both with a threaded muzzle? hint: Look at the grip. That is the only reason.

Makes sense? NO. everyone says the same. firearms experts and all. Hard to understand but it is a fact.
Have you seen the black list of NJ firearms? It is another joke. If the saiga had the word AK anywhere in the receiver you cannot sell it.
Since the word AK is not there it is ok to sell.

LEOs do not understand all this. Layers do not understand it. FFL dealers are confused too. Citizens are left to the mercy of the winds. This is what I mean with arbitrary laws and why sometimes innocent law abiding people end up in jail. And those who put them in jail are not later persecuted, including the LEOs involved in the arrest, the persecutor, the district attorney, the judge and everyone involved.

That isn't my point. Point is that nowhere in the US is the bullpup design (rather than a particular rifle that happens to be a bullpup) specifically barred from civilian ownership. FWIW, the bullpup is not a new concept, not in the least...they have been made for over a century (albeit those were usually one-off customs and quite rare), and are not all SA "high-powered" rifles. It is the new "tactical", "baby seal killing assault rifle" that they seek to ban. As 9mmE mentioned, KT believes it to be Cali (and therefore most everywhere else) legal, as do I (not that it has any bearing on me directly).

:)

I have two suggestions. Buy a Saiga 12 and have it customized. Cost ~$750 or buy a Bernelli Supernova and a two shot extension. Cost <$600. You can buy them today have HD covered for years before the KT is available.

nipsip, I like my Saiga-12 (I better...I have upwards of $1k in the darn thing and did all the work myself ) but I think the KT is in many ways more practical (now isn't that like comparing the practicality of a Ferrari to a Porsche?) and a neat design in its own right.

FWIW, I believe a SxS 20Ga. "Coach Gun" is the most practical HD scattergun, but the KT still has a few advantages.

:)

My wife wanted one of the Stoeger tactical coach guns, but now she's waiting until the Kel-Tec comes out to buy a shotgun.

Me too, though I was going to buy a Stoeger SS 20Ga. Coach Gun Supreme. It's not like I am going without (don't imagine that you or your wife are either), so I can afford to wait a few years. I'll likely still end up with a coach gun, but it has dropped a few spots on "the list" (actually it went all the way down from the primary to the tertiary list), additionally i'll probably forgo the SS and get blued instead (the SS was for practicality, I think the blued looks better).

:)

Betcha the antis will get their shorts in a knot over this one. It remind me of old High Standard Model 10 shotguns (the "Dick Tracy" shotgun). It was a big deal when it came out about 40 years ago; sales were to LEO only. It was the original "EBS" (evil black shotgun). Though none of the agencies in the area ever adopted it, I bought one. It was a good thing that it looked so intimidating; you wouldn't want to stake your life on it actually working. I went back to my Wingmaster 870 in short order.

The Kel-Tec is one of those guns that, if deployed, might defuse a bad situation before the S actually HTF. There's nothing that says "sporting" about it, which is all to the good for a SD/HD firearm.

I would imagine that New York, New Jersey, California and good ol' Crook County, Illinois, would quickly find some way to ban them.

If Kel-Tec sells a bunch, maybe other manufacturers will produce something similar - perhaps even in a semi-auto version. Being able to get $800 for a pump shotgun is going to be awfully tempting.

They'll probably get less than $600ish, since the few pre orders that are up are in that range, so KT's actual profit is going to be less than that.

I think it's incredibly gimmicky. I'm sure the armchair commandos and YouTube gun review dorks (that never do any actual shooting) will love it.

It appears to be quite chintzy. Time will tell on that I suppose.

The price is crazy.

I'll take my Remington 870's over that thing any day.

Once I have the money, this will become my truck gun! I like pump guns. I don't know why, but I do, and besides, this holds more than almost any other shotgun! It makes sense for what I need it for, so I look for!ward to owning one
