KelTec P11 or PF-9

Depends on the purpose you have in mind for the gun. If you need a very small, slim gun to act as a backup, then the PF9 would seem to fit the bill.
If you are looking for a slightly better all-around gun, that would offer more capacity in the roll of a "primary carry" then the P11 warrants consideration.

It's a little bigger and thicker, but for that trade-off you get a more shootable platform for practice at the range, and nearly double the capacity with the S&W 12 round mags.
I can't think of a smaller, lighter 12+1 gun available on the market. That's a lot of firepower relative to the size of the gun.

^^^ It uses S&W 15 round mags too. K-T makes slip-on mag extensions for both 12 and 15 round mags. Mine function flawlessly.

I can have the gun at ready one-handed I do want a drop safety... and thumb safety.

I've dropped mine before, not off a 10 story building, just in the kitchen that I can remember. Didn't go bang. And, what I like about the P11s long trigger is I don't need no stinkin' thumb safety. If I wanted a thumb safety, I'd just carry a cocked and locked 1911. I carry my P11 in a pocket, though, something hard to do with any 1911. It's perfectly safe in a pocket with that trigger.

Doesn't Springfield use a titanium firing pin in their 1911 to pass the drop test? I wonder if that would work for the P11, as well as allow for a lighter hammer spring & trigger pull.

They use a very light hammer with the pivot located such that there is no hammer inertia if dropped. They must use a somewhat heavy (it's all relative, i shoot DA revolvers) hammer spring so that there is enough hammer inertia to fire the gun. That's why there's a strong hammer spring. Lighten the spring, you'll have to add weight to the hammer. I think you've got it bass ackwards.

I just put 50 rounds through my P11 yesterday. It has worked flawlessly for the first 150 rounds fired. It is a nasty little gun, not very much fun to shoot, but it is more accurate than I am at ten yards and packs a good wallop.
The trigger sucks (a piece of electrical wiring 'shrink wrap' made mine more comfortable), and the recoil bites my hand, but I like it for what it is: a small, simple, effective, and powerful handgun with a ten round magazine.
I paid $251 including tax a month ago at my LGS.

P-11

In the early days I did some testing and evaluations for some "special folks" on the P-11.
Later, much later, I would shoot a PF-9.
Just me, but the "perceived recoil" is less on the PF-11, and I have over 50,000 rounds through the P-11 platform.
No. I no longer own a P-11 , none of the guns given to me having tested or any other "plastic" pistol.
