i recently purchaced a keltec plr-16
it was $500.00 o.t.d.
chambered for the 223rem. 5.56 nato, comes standard with a 10rd mag, and also accepts all ar 15/m16 magazines. 1/2-24 threaded barel for muzzle breaks, comps. etc.

althoe keltec recomends not using wolf brand amo because of their steel casings, and varnish coated cassings, i still ran a few hundred rds of them too see how the gun would do.... a few f.t.e. i sprayed it down with clp breakfree, and then the gun ran flawless! now this is a fun gun to shoot!!

it has an impressive blast of fire, a nice big bang, but for being a .223 in a pistole... the kick isn't bad at all!

so, if any of you were on the fence of buying a plr..i highly recomend it!
 
People sure seem pleased with 'em. I need a regular AR carbine before I could think about buying something like that, but it's quite interesting to read about.

Say what you will about Kel-Tec*: they innovate.

They are a U.S. company (incorporated in Canada, I believe) that makes truly inventive and interesting semi-automatic defense-type firearms at reasonable prices. That deserves respect. Their product line is about as non-PC as it's possible to be. They're getting ready to offer a commercial .308 bullpup! :cool:

*(I am just alluding to the mixed reliability reviews on the early KT P-series pocket pistols -- early reliability reports on the PLR-16 seem good.)
 
I've had a couple for a while now.
Very interesting gun and a whole lot more accurate than I would have believed.:)

Glad you like it, they are fun toys! You can also pile all kinds of tacticool stuff on them if you feel the need.

How accurate are they? Could they replace a folding stock AK as an under the long coat get out of Dodge in a SHTF gun?

The gun's accuracy isn't a problem and it's small enough to carry under a coat.

I'm just a decent shot, nothing special.
This is what the PLR does for me.

Very cool.

I had forgotten all about these. I saw a couple at the local dealer while back and meant to pick one up, but form 1'd a bushmastes SBR instead. I will have to look again.

On top of that, I could legally carry one with my CPL. Boy would irk the Brady Bunch or what?

and here in Nevada, I plan on putting it on my permit also.... (gotta buy a trench coat first though)

The pistol is a great "*** is that" conversation starter at the range!

Seems like it would be a heck of a truck gun!
 
I just sent in the paperwork package for my Florida CWL.

This little whammer jammer gives me a lot of ideas. Raises conealed carry to a whole new level, in the event of semi-SHTF scenarios.
 
yah, that was also part of the reason i picked up that perticular gun.
i figure if someday t.s.h.t.f. i would be able to protect myself, and family, while still being in compliance with the law.

and for the normal "everything all good" days, i have a really fun gun to play with!:neener:
 
Yep, in the event of urban or rural semi-SHTF, where you still have to deal with police and legal reality, this would be the perfect weapon. Throw on a kevlar vest, then a strapped PLR, then your loose outer shirt, and you would outgun 99% of the threats you might encounter, all the while being "street legal" and low profile.

Also, in the event of total SHTF, if legal considerations were moot, it would be a snap to mount a stock to the back of the pic rail. Instant compact carbine.

Is the muzzle velocity sufficient to get frangmentation from the 55 grain fmj round? It might require investing in good hollow/softpoint ammo to make it a decent self-defense weapon.
 
SWAT magazine did a review of it a few months ago. Most normal rounds chrono'ed at 2500-2600 fps. SHould still be plenty good enough to deal with any eventuality short of charging rhinos or a Mexican heart shot on a Chrysler.

M2, you're eeeevil...ever since you got your first one, I've wanted one too. It's next on my list.
