My 10 year old had the same trouble with a 308. I put one of these one him him and he said it kicked like a 22.


I would definitely try one.

I would load some reduced loads. Even if you don't load currently the cheapest loading setup along with a box of bullets, a pound of powder, and 100 primers is going to be cheaper than 100 reduced recoil rounds and you get your pick of bullet. Load them down to .30-30 velocity and it should be a bit easier on the boy.
