Kid Gunman

Tonight's news had a piece about a group of adolescent boys holding two women up with a gun. They threatened the driver and took the passengers purse. The driver said she saw death in the gunman's eyes. They didn't say how many guns were present. This presents an interesting dilemna. The threat is just as deadly as if an adult was holding the gun, perhaps more so, but you know if you shot the kid, you'd be in a world of hurt. I've thought about what I would do and since the child is just as deadly, I'd shoot him if there was no other option. This would most likely put an end to my freedom regardless of any court decision. Have you considered such a scenario? What would you do?
 
A threat is a threat is a threat. Child, adult, wolverine, stuffed teddy bear, I don't care one way or the other. If the immediate threat of deadly force is leveled against me, I'm going to do what I need to do to end that threat against my life, no matter who or what is behind that threat.

I'm curious - by "in a world of hurt", are you referring to the emotional toll shooting an adolescent would take on an individual who was forced to defend themselves, or the legal consequences of bringing lethal force against an adolescent? If the latter, I don't see how any halfway-legitimate court proceeding could go far enough into the "poor defenseless child" defense to do any damage, seeing as how the poor, defenseless child in question was busy threatening you with deadly violence. Legally, I just don't see it being any more of a "risk" than you'd encounter had your attacker been an adult.

Emotionally, I feel the same way. Sure, it's unfortunate when one goes bad so young, but if you're gonna pull adult crap like that, you have to be ready to take the adult consequences. Sometimes that means that your prey gets the drop on you. As a potential victim, they'd just be another criminal to me.
 
Heard a story about a police detective once upon a time who didn't want to shoot a kid who had pulled a knife on him and decided to disarm the JD. Said detective lived, but he ate six small meals a day for the rest of his life because he lost most of his stomach.

It would be hard for me to see much beyond the gun, knife, club, Airsoft painted black, toy gun etc. if whoever was holding it appeared to be a genuine legitimate threat. You have to live through Problem One in order to get to Problem Two after all.

If a person can legally use deadly force against someone that has a "toy gun" that looks real, but can't harm you, you should be able to defend against any real deadly threat.

It has been well known for the past 30 years that gangs recruit kids to commit the murders, because they can't generally be held beyond 18 to 21 years of age.
 
I have little patience for the goblins who pretend to be human or adolescent or female. Once a goblin shows you his nature there is nothing left of innocence in it. Is there room left in you for a respect better paid to real people? (real people = folks not trying to kill or rob you)
