A long time ago, i remember reading somewhere, that somebody (politics) was trying to get a law passed where if someone was shot and killed with a gun, that gun would have to be destroyed. anyone ever heard of this? did that come about? it may have been california, i am not sure.

Unless you buy into the whole "it just went off" scare tactics. Never seen one just go off by its lonesome. Have seen one decocker malf on an early model s&w auto once. Tried to get Smith to pay for the cleaning of my drawers.... didn't work.
