Howdy, this is just a quickie, if rambling review, of my Ultra 10. It's one of the first versions, with black small parts, internal extractor and non-ramped barrel.
So then.........
I'd originally owned one of the Bul M5's and found it to be a really good fit in my hand as well as very accurate, reliable and pleasant to shoot. Then my Bul was stolen ( a staggeringly evil curse on whoever robbed it - @##$%!!!) so I'd gone with a Glock 30 which was fine, super accurate, super reliable, but not a good fit or a natural pointer for me, so the thought of a 10 shot 45 with a familiar 1911 feel in such a small package was really rather appealing. So I saw one, plonked down the cold hard ones for it, only to find about 11,000 negative reviews online saying it was a piece of FTFF, FTFE crap.. D'oh ! Anyway the deed was done so I thought I'd give it the benefit of the doubt. And indeed the first couple of hundred rounds were a right royal pain in the arse, many FTFFs and FTFEs from full, 1/2 full, nearly empty mags, and no, I was firm wristing it, and my extractor tension was, erm, tensed, thankyou. Bought an extra mag, same problems, greased it with Militec, lubed it with CLP, cleaned it so I could see my quite lovely face in it....it still played silly buggers and now I was up to about the 1000 round mark. Put it in a drawer and went back to shooting my guns that worked. Anyway, about 2 months ago while looking for matching socks, I found it in the drawer and thought, "hmmmmmm". Now the galling thing was that it fit my hand really well, was comfortable to shoot (nice wide impulse spreading backstrap), and very accurate, in a quarter sized hole at 7yrds kinda way, so it would have been perfect except for the reliability issue. Which is fairly major.....so I de-linted it, greased it up like a Roman-Greco wrestler and off to the range we go. First box of 50 Sellier 200g and nearly every other shot is an FTF- ACK !! About to pin the Ultra to the target holder and have at it with my other guns... load up another mag and off we go again...Hmm, a whole mag with no stoppages...again, 2nd to last round FTFs, well, getting better, load up again- all good....... 300 rounds later and only 1 more FTF...fast forward to now and I've put about another 1500 rounds of Sellier, Load X reloads and a motley assortment of JHPs and not a hiccup, it's running beautifully. And I have no idea why. At all.
