Jim at Krieger just informed me that they no longer will double-cryo treat barrels, due to some litigation from another firm.

Wonder if there was a patent or something... anyone have any additional information?

Interesting... how could cryo treatment be universally available but one company have a patent on doing it twice? Of course, I haven't read much about it so maybe I am missing something that could be patented.

Business processes can be protected as "trade secrets"... maybe that's what's going on here?

I might be naive...and I could certainly be ignorant-but it was my impression that the only protection trade secrets have is: keeping them secret. If you patent a process, you only have possession of it for seventeen years...you have possession of a trade secret as long as you keep it secret. Witness the Coca-Cola recipe.
