Hi! I'm thinking about upgrading from my trusty BT99, and came across the more moderately priced Krieghoff trap singles. Does anyone have experience with the KS5 or KS5 special Krieghoff trap guns? Krieghoff recently came out with the new KX5 line, which has left some fine-looking KS5s, the older model, on the used market. Krieghoff obviously has everything in the world going for it--built like tanks, great service, and one hell of a reputation--but I've never heard or seen anyone comment on this particular gun. I've held it in my hands once and liked it, but that doesn't do much!

There are a few things I really like about this gun. For starters, there's the adjustable rib, which you just don't find on most other top singles. Then there's the actual placement of the barrel, which seems to be further toward the bottom than most top single trap guns...it looks like it's somewhere in between where the top and bottom barrels would be on an O/U.

If you have ever owned or used a KS5, please sound off and let me know what you thought! I've heard you can't go wrong with a Krieghoff, and it's certainly not as much as a K80, but a used KS5 is still a lot of money and worth some research. Especially since it will take a seriously good trap gun to make me give up the BT99. The adjustable rib and comb, along with the lower barrel placement and the overall Krieghoff reputation are definite pluses, but I thought I'd ask around.

Thanks!

Jake

I have a sweet shooting K80 Special Trap and have shot it since 2006. The softess shooting, best trigger, bird slaying trap gun I've ever used. You can tell by my handle that I started with the BT100. If the KS5 has been shoot much you may want to send it back to Krieghoff and have them go over it and tune it up. They recommend that ever 20,000 rounds. You can't go wrong especially if your finding it at a decent price.

I know this thread is OLD, but I bought a KS-5 Special in 2006 as part of a two gun deal (the other gun was a Browing Gti), both guns for $2400. Both guns 98%. The KS-5 Special is a wonderful trap platform and I couldn't be happier. I've been shooting clays since 1968.
