A short while ago, I accidently dropped my steel RCBS dial calipers about 1' or so onto the top of my reloading bench. The dial pointer spun 180 degrees and was now at 6:00 when the jaws were closed. While I could rotate the dial, I'd now have to use it upside down, and didn't trust that it would be correct.

Last week I was shopping online for some new dial calipers, when I decided to give RCBS a call. Their customer service told me to just send them in. Sent them last Monday, and today I received brand new steel dial calipers.

Great company that stands behind their great products.

The dial is spring loaded to hold it down on the gear track.

A shock from dropping it, and it can jump gear teeth as yours did.

Most dial calipers can be re-zeroed using a narrow piece of .002" brass shim stock.

To do it, insert the shim into the gear track and move the slider slightly until the dial gear runs up on the shim and disengages from the track gear teeth.
Then remove the shim.

That will reposition the dial pointer gear on the track in a different tooth position.

It may take a few tries to get it right, but you can in fact do it.

But, Good for RCBS anyway!!
