I need a double mag carrier. Can anyone give me a compelling reason why I shouldn't just buy Uncle Mike's for $20? How are the more expensive double mag kydex carriers better? Are they better?

I have an Uncle Mike's double and it works fine. In fact, I like it better than the Fobus because the tension is adjustable.

I have some Comp-Tac single mag pouches and they are nice, too. Their big advantage (to me) is the belt clip. My Uncle Mike's threads through the belt so it's harder to get on and off and to adjust. I use the Uncle Mike's for competition and the Comp-Tac for CCW.

I have been trying to answer this same question. It is really a pretty simple concept, a plastic cube with one end missing, attached to you hip (belt or paddle). The only way I could see the more expensive models being better is IF they have a tension adjustment, AND you used it enough, to wear it to the point that it no longer held the mag securely. I really don't see this as a problem though.

Myself I went with Fobus because I found them for ~$15 and they didn't have an Uncle Mikes in stock to fit my mags. I guess in Cali $20 probably isn't too bad. I do use an Uncle Mikes holster though. From what I have seen the "tacky" compound of the Fobus leads to more wear on the guns finish.

Edited to say - - I didn't know the tension was adjustable on the Uncle Mike's. Shows how much I know.

I have the one from my XD45 package, that I have decided to get rid of....cheap too. I decided to go with the G&G paddle mag and light holster instead as I don't plan on getting a 3rd mag. 27 rounds is enough.....
