So, for a project today, I decided to stipple the grips of my XD. I didn't go nuts with it, but I stipples the textured panels, half the back strap, and a little square in front of the trigger guard. If I could figure out how to post pics from my iPad , I would show you!
It's an easy project. The biggest keys are good lighting and patience. It doesn't take a super long time to do, but you have to be patient enough to keep consistent. Consistency and paying attention make it pretty hard to make a mistake! I did mine by putting the tip on at about a 45 degree angle and pressing/ dragging just a hair.
For those of you contemplating this, it took me a looooong time to build up the courage to start sticking a hot soldering iron into my gun and permanently scarring it, but now that I have done it I am glad I did. It looks good, and it is a much superior grip. Plus, it was fun to do.
