Since there are many products that project a laser to act as the aiming mark in a dark or otherwise situation where the iron sights cannot be used, such as Crimson Trace, I just wanted to know how you align the laser dot relative to your sight picture. Personally, I set the laser a bit higher than the front post when I am sighting, so that the dot will be on top of the sight lineup.

I just got a set of like new crimson lasers for my 642. I haven't used them at the range as of yet but will go this weekend to zero them in. The web site states that they come from the factory zeroed in at 50 feet. There are other threads goind right now ("are they worth it" posted by phydeaux, I think) that talk about zeroing the laser sights parrallel to the barrel. That way, the sights are good at any reasonable distance. There's a link on that thread that talks about zeroing the laser 1/2 inch to the right and 1/2 inch down from POI to accomplish it. Sounds like a good idea to me and if I don't like it, It's easy enough to change.

Get a bore laser, find the distance that you want to sight it in for then adjust your Crimson until the 2 dots become one.

I have mine set just below the sights at 20 meters since I don't often shoot at longer distances than that. In my case the result is POI is above and left of the dot, but more importantly, the dot is not visible to me at less than 25 meters when I'm using the sights to target.
