I have a 1911 Springfield armory. I have owned this pistol for several yrs.

Last round in every mag either jams or is laying loos in the chamber.

Reloads or factory and different mags the same result.

Any ideas.... Will probably take it to a gunsmith.

Don't waste your money on a smith, problem is the mags. Are they the 8-round ones that lack the "dimple" on the follower?

See if Wolfe makes an "extra power" magazine spring for your mags. That'd be the first thing I'd try. Especially if the problem is a recent development.

The last round loose in the port is the round jumping the magazine when the slide impacts the frame and jerks the pistol out from under it.

That's what the little dimple on the top of the standard 7-round follower is there for...and a weak spring can make it worse.

Mine does the same thing if I leave the mag at full capacity for too long. I can let the spring relax over night and it stops.

That's a problem. You should be able to leave it loaded to capacity for decades without ill effects.

1911 magazines are very hit or miss (which I find odd considering their simplicity).

I'd personally recommend Wilson Combat ETM's. Best 1911 mags I've tried personally.

1911 magazines are very hit or miss because some of the maufacturers buy bulk lots of springs made of the cheapest, poorly tempered springs they can find and use very loose tolerances in constructing the magazine and followers. There are high quality springs and then there is everything else. Don't scrimp on magazine springs. Buy the best you can get. They're worth it. Wolff, Colt and ISMI springs are very good quality. I have had very good service life from McCormick magazines and springs also.
