I took off from work early yesterday afternoon. Rushed home, got the hunting gear together in a hurry, rushed out to the hunting area, parked my car, jumped out of my car with everything except for the rifle and...managed to lock myself out of the car. By the time my wife got out there with extra keys, the sun was almost set. I was pretty disappointed.

Got out there nice and early this morning. Made sure I pocked the keys this time. Set up in the same area that I'd spooked a deer last weekend. Half an hour later, 2 doe walked down the tree line about 30 yards away from my spot. I put the crosshairs on the larger doe and hoped that they would stop, but they wouldn't stop walking, so I took the shot while she was walking. I was afraid if I tried to grunt or somehow stop them that they'd just bolt because I was so close.

The gun fired, and that doe slid sideways and walked about 10 yards, kicked her hind legs, and then flopped over. When I saw that, I was worried; sometimes that indicates a gut shot. I waited 10 minutes to make sure she was dead, and when I approached her, I was relieved. It was a good lung shot, a little high but through-and-through behind the shoulder. A quarter sized hole at entry, a silver dollar sized exit wound. Smashed through ribs on each side and took out both lungs. No guts, thank goodness. She was a pretty fat doe (you can't really tell from the pic), I'd say about 120 pounds. After I field dressed her, I dragged her almost 200 yards through pasture to get close to a road. That was a workout!

Anyway, that was my hunting adventure this morning. I had fun!

Thank you! I'm so happy to be hunting again. It was a lot of fun. I didn't give up and I got lucky. And RC and everyone were right: 7 year old slightly tarnished ammo works just fine!
