That study is from 2013, and was widely discussed here 3.5 years ago when it was published. Do you have any new information that's current to 2017?

Dang! You're right

Dang, you're right. Popped up as current news, but the date is from 2013. Still a good read, but probably in archives here.

This appears to be from a legitimate news site,...

What do you mean by that? What criteria are you using to determine that the site is "legitimate"? How did you go about verifying that the site was "legitimate"? How did you go about verifying that the article was current?

As ugaarguy already noted, CNSNEWS is passing off a 2013 story as if it were a current headline. The subject may conform to your expectations of what the administration would do, but that's not a test for legitimacy. In presenting a 2013 story as if it were current, CNSNEWS is, in fact, engaging in deceit and misdirection and that is anything but legitimate.

I wouldn't say CNSNEWS is passing anything off as current. The OP stated that the story comes from a source that "appears" to be legitimate. The story was true and accurate. But when doing searches for stuff old stories often pop up and it is easy to mistake old new for current news. No one deliberately tried to mislead anyone here. It was an honest mistake.

The new information is: Anti-gunners have conveniently ignored and successfully shelved this study so that they can ...again....complain that the fed govt will not fund gun violence ....research.

But...oh gee...there is THIS study. Commissioned by Obama. Maybe the anti's need a reminder.

The reason you thought it was new is because there was a HUUUUUUGGGGGEEE effort to bury that study. The 'intended' outcome was one that said, "guns are bad, bad in every way, and gun ownership should be considered a mental disease that is only treatable with government intervention." Instead, the study gave solid consideration to both sides of the argument, considered both the potential benefits & consequences of gun ownership, and came to the conclusion that contrasts one of the primary principles that gun control is sold upon: that guns don't deter crime.

And they have to bury it, because if guns do deter crime, then they prevent people from dying (both good guys AND bad guys), and if they prevent people from dying, then that radically reduces the value of the statistics used to argue for gun control, and then there is justification for expanding concealed carry. Consequently, that's enough to make many people who mildly favor gun control to rethink their position on the issue, and that's totally intolerable to the tolerant.
