I have just been given a george lawrence holster and belt. The belt is marked 78D-38 L , the holster is marked 78D-603 and lined all in very good condition. The makers mark says The George Lawrence co.......Portland Oregon, could any one tell me the approximate age and what pistol would be the best fit for this holster......Thanks!

The 78D-38 L belt is a Hollywood style gunbelt, 2/12"wide with a drop loop to hold the holster. It should have 25, .38 size cartridge loops, L= large size (40 - 44 inches).

The 78D-603 is a matching holster that should fit a Ruger 357 6 1/2" barrel. Model not mentioned, but I presume an original Blackhawk because the listing is cir. 1964. I believe the company started in 1859, and more recently went out of business. One of their customers, and a solid fan, was the late gun writer, hunter and guide, Elmer Keith.

Oh, and welcome to The High Road. Do come back more often... :)
