After reading many posts of people "calling their lawyer" or telling the ATF or police to "speak to my lawyer" I quickly realized I do not have a lawyer. In fact, I don't even know where to find a good one should I have a need. Does anyone have any suggestions of reputable lawyers that can handle firearm / self defense law in Eastern NC? Thanks.

In the absence of a recommendation of a specific lawyer by someone here, your State Bar association may have a referral service that can help narrow your choices.

Walter Vatcher 455-9494 If I was in trouble with the law, he would be my choice.

edited to add. You probably noticed I post from Texas, I retired here after spending 25 yrs as an LEO in Onslow County. I have the highest professional regard for Mr. Vatcher.

not sure if he covers J-ville but chesnutt is probably THE BEST lawyer in craven county. hes a bit pricey but one heck of a lawyer. my friends older sister got running with a bad crowd for a a while and he got her off with a number of felonies with just community service.

he has a huge party every year with the sheriff, new bern police chief, and most of the judges.

In Craven County - Marc Chesnutt. Also he has a former Assistant DA Mrs. Peacock working for him. Very good law firm that has represented me in a quite a few traffic cases and one simple battery case over the years when I was stationed in the area.....

In Onslow County - Walter Vatcher, no question - hands down.

In Carteret County - Roger Crowe or John Nobles.

Mr. Crowe represented me in 1999. I won't get into real specifics about the case (I was in the right) however "refusing to answer questions without my attorney present" tends to piss of the responding police.... espc when firearms are involved. At any rate my attorney at the time (Marc Chesnutt) recommended Roger Crowe to me. Glad he did.
