My Dad was debating about getting a shotgun for home defense. "But I wonder, is it going to just sit there doing nothing?" (implying another expensive purchase that just sits in its assigned storage spot all the time).

street this direction covered with
blood and knocking on doors. The
locals responded and he'd hidden
out in the "woods " where a bunch of
us played as kids. They did find him
and he popped an officer and a K9
and got fitted for a rubber tuxedo
to ride in the limo with the red lights
on top.
There's another still running loose
to the southeast after killing several
neighbors
Yeah, parking a shotgun in easy
reach is a good practice. Just
thread an old sock over the loud
end to exclude unwanted squatters.
It need not be removed for urgent use
