Lead round nose in a 92?

I saw some fairly cheap, 9mm Lead round nose ammo at Dicks today. Is a lead bullet okay to shoot in an auto, or should they be left to revolvers? My specific auto is a Beretta 92, if that makes any difference.

I have been shooting lead bullets in auto-loaders for about 45 years now.

If the loads in question are properly loaded with good quality bullets, there is no reason at all they won't do just fine in a 92.

Lead bullets and guns with polygon rifling such as Glocks is another story.

That can work quite well too, but not with lead bullets of normal hardness.

i reload exclusivly lead ammo, and they are fired form semi autos. in the 92 you will be fine. it has conventional riflings not polygonal you will be good to go.

I once down loaded some 9mm rounds for my FN Nazi Hi Power. I stupidly loaded about 200rnds of 125gr LRN over 3.2gr Red Dot without first function checking it.... well that Hi Power wouldn't function on it. My MKII Hi Power, Star Super B, FM Hi Power, P38, Luger, Sig P226 or Sig P6 wouldn't run on it either.... failure to eject most of the time. I wasted the better part of 50rnds and 1/2 hr foolng with them.

Then I broke out the Beretta 92F. Ran like a champ, not 1 problem. Had a great time with the remaining 150 or so rounds.

As long as your mags are good - a Beretta 92 will feed anything.

I have cast LRN and SWC in 9mm. My 92 will eat either with no issues. I find it is hard to choke my 92. I don't have many issues with leading, but that depends a lot on how hard your lead is. If you are buying factory LRN ammo, you SHOULD be OK. Most manufactured lead ammo is hard enough not to be a problem. This is not a guarantee, though.

If you find your barrel is leaded, just shoot a handful of FMJ through it and then clean it.

90% of the rounds I shoot in 9mm, .40 and .45 are LRN. I experience zero problems with moderate velocities and hard lead!

A Beretta 92 should eat LRN all day long, save that it may require more frequent cleaning, not so much from the unjacketed bullet, but that some lubricants (not visible on the outside of the cartridge) used with lead bullets can be quite dirty and smoky when fired.
