i am having trouble indexing my lee 3 hole turret....i replaced the nylon rachet and clamp but it still will not move....i even read over the instructions numerous times...when it does move, it rotate alittle but not into proper position...no matter how tight or loose i make it...even tried to shim the rachet nut away from the main post...

i can still reload but i have to rotated the turret by hand...thinking of converting it to a 4 hole press...it seems to have a better setup for rotation....

Is the nylon ratchet installed upside down?

Is the nut on the top of the indexing rod loose? If it's spinning you will get the problem you are having.

nylon washer / rachet is aligned with teeth of metal gear on post....if i tighten it more to make it not spin then nothing happens....i take it the metal rachet should not move or spin as the handle goes up/down....

I'm not totally sure what you mean. I'm talking about the top of the auto-indexing rod. On the top of the rod there is a square nut that's not supposed to move at all. That is the nut that fits into the bottom of the turret. When the handle is pushed back up the nylon ratchet spins the rod and is supposed to turn the turret. If the nut is spinning the turret will not turn.

Not to worry, if it is the rod Lee has them for sale. I think they are only $5.00.

I hope I'm giving you the correct information. I'm assuming the 3 hole and 4 hole auto-index are similar in design. I had the 4 Hole Turret Press and sold it to buy the 4 Hole Classic Turret Press. The Classic Turret Press is built a lot better with a heavier ram and steel linkage.

the three hole is a little more stout than the 4 hole. the ratchets on them are much bigger.

Make sure your ratchet is installed right side up, and then... learn how that press works... IT's a very simple machine. take your turret off, then raise and lower your ram, see if the rod moves.

I've had various problems with my turret press over the years, none of it was tough to work out if you just take the time to observe and analyze the problem. "Improvision, Adaptation and Overcomtion"
