Sorry for this DUMB question and sorry if it was posted/answered in another thread. I have been reloading with a Lee single stage “O” press. I want to reload for my Springfield M21, but have decided, on the advice of a friend, to use a specific RCBS die rather than a Lee 308 die. Question: can an RCBS die be utilized in a Lee press so that I don’t have to spend the extra bucks for an RCBS press?

Thanks All!!!

Yes, most dies are standard 7/8" with 14 threads per inch, so RCBS dies work on a Lee press, and vice versa.
Some older manufacturers had proprietary die sizes, but they are mostly out of business now.

Note that Lee die sets come with the shell holder included, where it's an extra cost option on RCBS die sets. Anybody's shell holder will work on a Lee or RCBS press, too.

IIRC Lee, Lyman, RCBS, CH and Redding dies will work in each others presses. I'm sure I've missed some other brand being compatible....

I have Lee, Lyman and RCBS dies. All work in my Lee Challenger press.

It will work fine, but before I spent the extra money on the RCBS die, I'd check with the reloaders here and see if the RCBS die really gains you anything. I've seen cases where guys advised various specialty dies to overcome their not getting the die adjusted properly to do the job. I wasted money on an RCBS small base die for that very reason. Someone talked me into adjusting the Lee die properly and I haven't used the RCBS small base die since.

Just my .02,

Dave

I use Lee and RCBS in mine. I actually prefer the RCBS for my rifle loads and the Lee dies for my handgun/pistol loading...

I have Lee and RCBS presses. I found that while the dies are interchangeable not all the shell holders are. But as I have begun to run both at the same time for different opperations, I find the extra shell holder useful.
