So I came across an ad for a bunch of stuff including a pellet gun I thought I might like... Ask the person about it and it's mentioned that he could be, and I quote: "a very generous trader for the right "legal" firearm. " (his quotes around legal, not mine)

The question is ... is this person SERIOUSLY trying to ask me if I will trade him a firearm illegally, and if so what do I do, notify the police or ignore it?

Am I just paranoid and overthinking this?

well im not really sure theres much the police are going to do because im not really sure hes actually broken any laws.....

however, it seems a little suspicious and i would just walk away and tell him im not interested.

You just pay or trade FTF, and the only legal requirement is that you both be Florida residents. Check out what that guy thinks the deal oughta be and the either do something or walk away. At this point, you don't know one way or the other what he means, so no need to worry.

Worse comes to worst, meet the guy on the front steps at Kevin's. They might be having a sale of some of their over-priced stuff. :D

People that know me well would call me a skeptic, but in the case you describe, I don't read any nefarious motives. I'd check it out.

Well, anyone wanting to buy a gun would assume it was a legal sale. Someone wanting to buy a "legal" firearm, it seems to me, would be wanting one that is not stolen, although the purchaser might not be a lawful buyer. It just sounds fishy. Might not be, but it doesn't pass the "smell" test. More info would be needed.
Monetary transfers mean nothimg to the BATFE, it is only the transfer part they are concerned with. Same with drug sales, giving drugs away does not absolve one from trafficking in illicit drugs. Something just don't sound right, more info is needed.

What crime are you suggesting was committed here? Illegal use of quotation marks? I saw absolutely nothing that would compell me to contact law enforcement in this situation, and can't think of any practical course of action for them to take under these circumstances. If the deal doesn't sit righ with you, by all means, walk away from it. However, don't turn it into something sinister when the facts don't exactly support that conclusion....

I'd say the way he worded that is a bit suspect, but that alone wouldn't necessarily keep me from talking to the guy. If I did buy/sell/trade anything with him, I'd make a receipt personally. If I got a bad vibe about him maybe I wouldn't do anything with him.

You could always call him and ask him why his ad is like that. If you feel warm and fuzzy inside, great; if not, don't do any business with him.

Sorry, haven't really been checking my email, so I didn't notice the updates here.

I guess when someone offers you $2000 worth of merchandise for a $400 gun something is too good to be true ;)

Asked him what he'd offer for my .40 and he offered a crazy trade, I asked him if he'd be willing to sign a bill of sale for my records and he declined stating that he didn't feel comfortable doing that. I inferred based on that information that he's probably a felon.
