i recently purchased a 3032 Beretta tomcat. i currently OC the weapon in VA but constantly travel to jacksonville NC for work and would like to know the laws on transportation of my handgun and OC laws in NC.

I also have concerns on restrictions on the type of ammunition and weather or not it is legal to open carry with a round in the chamber in VA and NC

NC laws are pretty good keep it in the open ( on the dash or passenger seat "plain sight) and don't have one in the chamber while on the right of way of the road. I have not heard of any restrictions on ammo.

lt522,

Why are you saying don't have one in the chamber?

Juggaloninja,

In VA you are OK to carry with one in the chamber in the vehicle and outside the vehicle. The gun must remain visible in the vehicle.

NC is the same inside the vehicle, loaded carry is fine, so long as it is plainly visible. Cities and towns, however, may restrict the "display" of firearms and "display" is not defined, so depending on the city or town, they might consider open carry to be "displaying".
