Gun week opens tomorrow morning. I’ll be at a little honey hole sitting on the ground watching a giant thicket they cut through to get bedding. I’ve not had a time where I didn’t see deer so this should be good tomorrow. There has always been lots of buck sign so I may hold off for a buck. The Marlin 1895 wearing a 2-7 Leupold, shooting 300gr HP is ready to roll, got rain gear, butt pad and some snacks and I’ll be out all day. First sit of the season so i’m excited.

Be safe everyone. I’ll be thinking about y’all when I’m at work. Hopefully I can get out sometime.

Well today didn’t go so well. Got in 45min before legal light and bumped one walking in. I sat until lunch and didn’t see a single deer. I thought that was weird for that area so I went to lunch and decided to try the evening. I kept bouncing back and forth between trees I wanted to sit against and figure watching the field would be more ideal instead of the main trail leading from bedding to the thicket, field and nut trees. I took a couple short naps and just happen to glance at the trail coming down the hill from the bedding area and I see a giant body and nice rack coming. I had to second guess myself it was real and sure enough I got eyes on him with Binoculars. He stopped in the thicket and I should have had a good wind. He began walking away from and I lost him. I text my buddy and he asked if I could still see it. I began glassing again to my NW where I lost him and he was standing right in front of me about 40yards away. He blew and proceeded to mow down anything in his way on the way out. I grunted and did get him to stop hard quartering away so I passed. I would put $500 on it this deer would dress close to 200lbs and probably go 120”. My brother calls he downed one and needed help and Mother Nature was calling me so I stand up and there is 2 white tails where the buck came down the hill and they are bouncing away. I will say 45-70 does a number on a deer. Found my brothers doe and this was the result.

I’d say you’ve got enough gun!:)
