Finally got my Leupold mounted on my LRB M14.

Initially ran into a litany of problems. I had two sets of #22 ARMS extra low quick detach rings straight from ARMS. The first set we put on at my gunsmith had tolerances that were different, so when we tried to bore-sight it, it was WAY off. Unfortunately, we had to check the other points of contact to be sure (the Scope, the Mount). The following day, tried the second set of rings ARMS accidentally sent me, and there was a night and day difference when bore-sighted.

Called up ARMS, and their tech support was initially a little incredulous that tolerances could be off, but we measured it using some precision instruments at my gunsmith, and they were. They had UPS stop by and pick up the defective set of rings, which should be credited to my account shortly.

Little bit of hassle, but a happy ending eventually.

On a side note, the scope sits so low the elevation on the irons had to be adjusted all the way down.

:D

Thanks Robert!

Regarding ARMS, does your issue with them have to due with their recent court actions targeting other manufacturers...or is it a quality issue?

My gunsmith made a similar comment about ARMS when I had my rifle there.

Nice lookin set up you got there Torian.

How is your eye relief using your ring/optic/mount combination off of your M14?

Note; I have ended up doing the same thing in regards to the iron sights....... to keep it as low as possible to the bore for certain optics.

Eye relief is just right. It was dicey for awhile trying to get the eye relief right without the scope bumping into the receiver.

The rings are really too low..but we just barely worked it out.

That's a great looking M1A. Sold mine years ago, kinda makes me wish I didn't.

Thanks Herky.

This is not a Springfield M1A though, it is a LRB M14 forged receiver with all original USGI parts and a criterion barrel.

I spent a lot more on this LRB used then I would have if I purchased a Springfield equivalent new.

I've always been a fan of this weapon system, and jumped at the chance to own one of these when a couple of them used popped up on gunbroker last year.

After lookin close at your pic, it looks like you filled the selector lever hole of your M14 stock in a different way. (??)

Hard too tell, but what did you use, and how did you do it?

This type of rifle can be tricky when installing optics in the exact manner one likes, but it is worth the effort to do so IMO.

Again...... great job.

I went a similar route using an older ARMS 18 split rail mount/Leupold rings, and a VX1 1-4x20mm scope with the pig plex reticle. (Receiver is a Norinco M14S)

The rings are decent, but am looking for another set to get the scope a tad bit lower.

Fragout,

It's just the light playing tricks. The selector cutout in the stock is unfilled. I probably need to do something about that eventually.
