Hello all--I am strongly considering this locking method. I like it's security and portability. Has anyone had any experience with this product? There are a couple of models: the FJ1(small to Medium Frames) and the FJ2(Large Frames).

Life Jacket Gun Locks (LifeJacket)

I have a Smith and Wesson 15-3 (K Frame)[/B]. I believe this is considered a "Medium" sized revolver. I am trying to decide which one to get.

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks!

Scotty

Don't have any experience with it, but it should sure keep your firearm childproof, yet fairly accessible for you.

I wrote a review of the Lifejacket over at Epinions. I believe the standard size LJ would fit a K Frame well.

Lifejacket Gun Lock review

Thanks Trebor--I actually read your review before posting this question. Great review!

I think it will work well for me since I will be able to keep the gun out of reach during the day when Im not home and within MY reach at night.

The best defense against a child being hurt or worse with a firearm is education. In addition to locking up your gun I would suggest teaching everyone in the house how to handle that firearm safely. Back in the 30's and 40's guns were left around the house loaded and children didn't get shot with them because they were around and handled guns from a young age. Letting children handle a gun both educates them about the weapon and removes the curiosity. That has to be a good thing... :)

I plan to once my son is old enough. I would like this lock in case I want to travel. I believe they are TSA approved.

I cannot stress enough how much I agree with every word Archangel offered you. As a kid with a father who was chief of the city I grew up in I NEVER touched one of his guns without permission. Did the same thing with my daughter when she was young. As soon as she was old enough to understand we got Eddie Eagle (the NRA child safty mascot) involved. And I would test her.

Leave a gun on the bed and then ask to to fetch something from the room.

Today at 16 she is the proud owner of 2 handguns (she wants a 1911 for Christmas). She now has my total confidence in her gun handling ability.
