L to R:
quarter for reference
.22LR
.22Mag
.222Rem
.50BMG
40mm artillery piece

picked up the 40mm at a fleamarket for $8. here's some more pics of the 40mm:

bottom of case with dates, etc. anyone able to ID this, give any info?
40mm1.JPG

close up of primer and writing around it.
40mm2.JPG

stamped writing on the side.

and, upon inspecion with a light, the primer rises up in the center of the bottom of the case like the post on a HydraShok bullet. any reason? perhaps better ignition time?

yup. i could have gotten 2 for $10, but i only wanted one and the other was beaten up a bit.

Can't see the pictures, either.

I noticed ya blew right past having a .30 caliber specimen in your list, though.

Funny, I can see the pics just fine.

Cool item. I once had a 105mm shell for an umbrella stand. I wonder whatever happened to that thing...

Could be wrong here, but with the anchor on the casing, I'm assuming it's a shell casing from either a dual or quad Navy 40mm Bofors AA mount.

Yes, the internal post of the primer was to give more positive ignition. Even modern artillery shells have similar primers.

Now they're showing up again, but I'm guessing you'll be over your geocities limit by the time folks get off work tonight. :) So, since you can upload files to THR, I saved them, and will post them for ya. (not visible, just a link).

edit: well, I guess vbulletin knows a file is a pic, and thumbnails it. Oh well.

(that 40mm left one hell of a bruise...)

Here are some loose/old stuff I have gotten over the years: I really need to clean this stuff up one of these days. All the BIG stuff is dummy/inert ammo.

.50 BMG - .45 ACP Hydra-shock - .22 LR - 9 mm - .45 case - .50 AE - 500 S&W - (back row) 7.62 NATO - 20mm dummy and a 70mm dummy rocket warhead.

Bonus points to whoever can identify the item between the ammo!

zerosignal wins the bonus round! :D

It's a sway brace from an AH-1 Cobra ejector rack, inboard rack to be specific. It ended up in my tool box from a gunnery many years ago and is still with me, don't ask why I haven't thrown it away.

"the largest ones in my line up are much smaller until you fire them"

what?
