Just ran an easy 120 rds through factory repaired LNL before primer which worked fine before is now modified and giving me trouble . Cam rod that used to be screwed into base is now seated on a spring loaded pedestal and in mine now pops out each time I cycle rather staying on pedestal. System installes is not in my old manual. Cam rod also seems mobile at top siding in a previously tight fitting holder. Anybody have this new system and or know what to do?

If you want to keep your sanity---don't prime on the LNL, it is a total headache---been there done that a hundered times, not worth it---had an open line to Hornady to no avail.

Prime OFF the press!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have not seen the new system. What retains the rod into the base now? Did it loosen up? Next time I see one I guess I need to study to see what they have done. My old one just keeps on ticking. Once I got every thing timed correctly it's been trouble free for 4 yrs and going now.

Have you tried looking on Hornady's website to see if they have updated the instuction manual? I have the older version so I can't help (my has been flawless through 30,000 rounds). I would call Hornady Monday morning for help.

same here

That's interesting....would like to see a photo of the new design.

Spoke to Hornady today. The new cam feed primer piece is MEANT to pop out if there is resistance in the primer slide assembly. Apparently the "old " primer cam rod was frequently bent and to avoid this the spring loaded rather than fixed mount was done.

thats exactly what mine does, i tried to make it work and it did it. i will continue until it gets as bad as some say then i will hand prime but dont see that in the future.

I have the new system and haven't had any problems at all.
At what point does it pop out of place, Is it on the ram up stroke to
get a new primer? If that's the case you may need to check your primer
punch to make sure its coming back out of the primer slide. If its sticking you
may need to clean it and put some oil or dry lube in it.

I've loaded roughly 10,000 rounds on my new style LNL, without any issues not caused by me. The only time I've had a problem with it is if it gets dirty and crap gets inside, keeping it from retracting all the way. As long as you keep it clean, it should work flawlessly for you. I will never hand prime again.

Hope the positive comments work out also for me.
I've been priming off the press but will give it another try. My concern is I had only loaded a couple hundred when problem arose, and I had just got it back from.We shall see, thanks for the input.

Magic,

Don't try to resolve on own, contact Hornady customer service. They are excellent. I've had issues before with my press, and they've guided me correctly each time.

Keep a can of compressed air with your press, use it to keep small pieces of dirt/powder/media from getting stuck in the primer feeder. Works great.

Whats the purpose of having a progressive press if not priming on the LnL?

Nor familiar with the new primer system but have primed MANY MANY case on my LNL AP. I used to always prime by hand but once I started doing this is was much easier. Yes, clean is the biggest thing since powder or dirt can get in the slide or in the punch.

I have primed 45acp, 9mm, 380, 308, 40sw, 30 carbine, and others without any issues but 38/357 was the biggest PITA to prime. If the case wasnt standing straight up it seemed to have an issue. I only had a few hundred to do so I didnt spend too much time on it. Mainly just wanted to say that I really dont see a problem with the old system.

I urge you to ignore those that claim the LNL primer system isn't worth the trouble. Once it is adjusted properly it works perfectly. I have used Winchester, Federal, CCI, Remington and Wolf primers and they all work perfectly as long as I keep the track, shuttle and primer plunger clean and free of debris. Canned air works wonders.

Called Hornady discussed it, took it down reassembled and now use compressed air to maintain surgical suite clean. It works and BTW Federal primers slide in slick as can be.

Glad to hear its working. Hornady built a great loading machine, LnL.

Like every progressive press, it takes time and effort to get it properly dialed in.

They must have changed something, a budy from work just bought the Lnl and already broke it while de-priming some cases. He said something about the cam rod for the primer feed and a black piece of plastic but was not sure what he was talking about. He has called Hornady and they are shipping parts to him. I have had mine now for over a year and once everything has been dialed in, not any problems at all.
