I am new to shotshell loading. Working on a load from the BPI buckshot manual. This load is from the 12 gauge 2" roll crimp section, fiocchi hull, titewad powder, gas seal, a 12 gauge 1/8 cork wad, load grains of shot is 415 or 6 each 000 buck.and a clear overshot card

I have remington field grade no 3 buck I want to sub for the 000. The stack i was able to get to work is 6 and 1 in middle, another 6 and 1 in middle, then another 6 for a total of 20 number 3 that weighs just over 400 grains. With just one of the cork wads this left about a 1/2" of space to the top of the hull which I dont think would have roll crimped. I added 2 more cork wads for a total of 3. This left me with just over 1/4" of space to top of hull I am using the precision reloading roll crimper in a cordless drill with a homemade hull vise made out of plywood.

Def need to get my technique down with roll crimping and I do intend to get a drill press and a true hull vise down the road. This is how first one came out

The overshot card shifted and I got an uneven crimp. Probably me with uneven pressure on the drill. I think the crimp is tight enough there is some rattle of the shot but I am pretty sure its just the ones in the middle.

Think this is ok to run as is with the uneven crimp? Any other comments or suggestions is welcome. Just wanted to try out some 2" shells in my mossberg as I understand 2" will run and without any adapters.

Thanks in advance

I like it! I'm no expert, but I think it will shoot fine. The pattern might not be ideal. It would be fun to test patterns and crimps. If you are really concerned, call their lab. Those guys are very helpful.

Was that data out of their "Short Shell" manual?

That load is from their buckshot manual. It is in the 12 gauge 2" section. I have the short shell manual as well and am gonna try some of those as well.

What's the purpose of a 2" shell with buckshot? Just askn'.

Is the gun only chambered for the 2" or mini shells? My father's xternal hammer SXS is a 2 1/2" gun and it did all of the types of waterfowl, rabbits and squrIrrls.

Just looking to get my feet wet loading buckshot and I like the idea of roll crimps although finding out its not as easy as it looks. My mossberg is a 3" chamber. Guess I just like the idea of the mini shells.

I've been wanting to load some buckshot. The components are just not that easy to come by. I like the mini shell idea too. I've got the BPI Buckshot manual. I'll have to look at it a little more.

Don't worry too much about what your crimps looks like. My first rollcrimps looked pretty nasty.

I have not seen those or the Aguilas function too well in anything except break actions, so make sure they really do perform in your gun, especially if you're planning on these for serious work.
