I am having some issues with loading berry's 200gr fp in .45 auto. I think im not seating the bullet down far enough. what is happening is when feeding into my Tanfoglio eaa witness match the slide is not closing all the way. what is a good C.O.L. for these bullets? mine is currently 1.220. and what is the "plunk" test i keep hearing about. how do you measure a taper crimp?

sorry if i am asking new guy questions I have only been reloading by hornady manuals with hornady bullets (which is easy and very self explanatory). but using these bullets with no data kinda worries me any help would be appreciated

The plunk test: remove the barrel, drop your loaded round into the chamber, and listen to see if it goes "plunk" and drops fully into the chamber AND will drop back out if you invert the barrel. It's also a good idea to press on the rear of the cartridge while it's in the chamber and see if it will drop free afterward.

Load up a couple of dummy rounds and keep seating the bullet deeper until they pass the plunk test. Also measure your crimp just barely at the case mouth. It should be about .472". If it's larger that may be the issue.

I had this problem with my latest batch of .45 loads. I started using a bullet feed die but to do that you have to expand the case mouth a little more...and I think I expanded it too much. Since my seating die does not crimp it was not pushing the case mouth back. Thus most of my rounds were tight in the chamber and some would not feed at all.

I picked up a Lee factory crimp die and ran all my rounds through it and now EVERY round drops into the barrel with the magic "plunk"! I am going to play with the bullet feeder and see if I can expand the case mouth less and still make it work 100%.
Oh and I was loading 200gr Berrys RN too but would have had the problem on any bullets since my problem was case mouth, not bullet.
