Hi everybody, I just joined ten minutes ago so I could seek knowledge from ya. I was directed here by my gun shop guy for what he was humble enough to say, "I'm not a 100% but these guys probably are."
I just purchased an 1889 remington SxS 12ga with exsposed hammers and damascus barrells. I don't want to put modern ammo through this great piece of American craftsmenship so powder it is. I have never loaded ammo before but it seems to be as complicated or as simple as you wanna make it, if youtube is right.
I bought American Pioneer Powder, FFFG, on the shops recomendation. For the first round I'll be repacking unfired shells so primers aren't an issue yet, I'll be trimming the 2 3/4 shells down to properly fit the gun and shot (7 1/2) and wads are there too. So the big question is the only part left. How much powder should I be using? And of course, is this the right powder for what I'm up to?
P.S. The gun has been inspected by a proper smith and deemed fit to fire.
Thanks for your time,
Blake
