look what i found for 500.00!

its a 629-6 i got off a guy here locally. came with half a box of winchester white box 240's too :rolleyes:. the old feller told me that it was a little to much gun for what he needed so he parted with it for 500.00 and a smiling hand shake from me:). i have to admit, im not the biggest revolver guy. i have a 686-6 but thats about as far as me a da revolvers go but who could pass up such a good deal.

lock up is good
gun feels tight
eject rod strait
screws bur free
barrel alignment good
cylinder to forcing cone gap within spec
trigger is 3 and 3/4 with no push off
no cracks in forcing cone
barrel is like a mirror

i figure i will use it as my side arm for my trips into the mountains and hunting trips and such. just wondering, i know with smiths of old, 240g moving over 1200 was pretty much the ceiling as far as safe function but times change and guns are built stronger. question is can the newer model smiths handle some of the more hot loads like the 300 xtp's at 1200 or so?

Love it! S&W 44 mag revolvers are just plain fun. I have 4 of them and I'd buy a whole bunch more if I found deals like the one. Have fun with it!
 
its just my year this year! it must be pay back for all the over paying i have been doing. 3 months ago i traded a ruger blackhawk 44 mag for 400.00 and a never fired marlin 336cs in 35 rem the guy did not want and traded it for a lnib ruger tange safety mountain rifle and sold it for 600.00. then this happens! i wondering if it will blow up in my face because my luck has to run out sooner than later. who knows, maybe my fabled m77 223 target (my first gun i ever bought) will end up in my hands.

It's the best handgun to "trade shots" with,,,
When I see someone with a gun I would like to try,,,
I always offer to let them shoot one or any of my handguns.

The .44 Mag almost always gets chosen,,,
It's "bribed' many folk to let me try their handguns.

well ill be using this trick to my advantage...

If it were my gun I wouldn't have any issues shooting a couple of cylinders of 300s out of it, but I certainly wouldn't make it part of that gun's regular diet.
A continuous steam of hot loaded rounds will still cause the 629 to develop excessive endshake.

If you want a Revolver that you can pound the bejezus out of with hot rounds, you want a Ruger (Redhawk, Super Redhawk, or Super Blackhawk)
