Looking at a Howa...

This is the Howa 1500 in .308 with a 20 inch heavy barrel. For range use and maybe the occasional varmint.

How much velocity does the 20 inch barrel lose compared to the longer iterations? Would it be noticeable at, say, 300 yards?

Agreed, I have a 20" .308 that I regularly shoot out to 700 yds, 300 yds is a cake walk for an accurate 20" .308. As for velocities, my Varget loads for 168's chrono at 2650 fps, and 178's clock about 2590. Neither of those are totally maxed out, I just stopped when I found decent velocity and great accuracy.

Not enough you'd notice at 300 yards. A 20" barrel is perfect
