Just passin through!
Hi all, I have been considering my next long arm purchase and would like to consider a carbine of some sort. I have checked into a number of different mfg's and am still not sure which way would be the best to go. This firearm could also do duty as a home defense gun as well. I would like to stick with a cheap and easy to get ammo type too. (9mm, .45...)
I have considered as a few others here have the firearms below not in any particular order:

Beretta Firestorm C4 9mm
Ruger PC9
KelTec Sub2000 9mm

Any thoughts advise etc..welcome as always

My experience with my PC 9 is this:

They are built like a tank and heavy. The trigger is horrible. But mine is very accurate especially with a red dot sight on it and a real fun gun to shoot.

There is a wealth of information on this board, as well as a very recent discussion on the same topic. If you don't get the desired replies do a search on this board. Of the 3 you stated I would either get a used PC9 or a new Kel-Tec. It really depends on what you want as all of those weapons are good. Any reason why you want a pistol caliber and not something with a bit more power?

The CX4, handle it, and you will be in love, it just kind of melts into your hand and feels like a part of you. My wife and I both like it a lot. There is a lot of information previously posted about the Beretta and stuff too.

IF you already have an AR15, you might consider an Olympic Arms 9mm upper. It uses Sten mags with a SOCOM block and is quite accurate out to 100 yds or so.

Disclaimer: I don’t own any of these guns yet but I have been looking into and researching purchasing a carbine for a long time.
9mm carbine - The few ruger pc9s haven’t impressed me with the weight or the trigger. I like the looks but handling them never felt right.

Keltecs seem to be nice though bizarre looking. I like the folding feature and the main reason I don’t own one is that none of my pistols take the magazines the keltecs do. If Keltec ever comes out with a bhp model or xd-9 model I’m there.

Beretta Storm - awesome ergonomics, good trigger, customizable, cool looking. Downside - price tag. I have always had a hard time justifying spending the money though I will own one some day.

I really like the marlin 1894 in .357 magnum. Seems like a fun shooter that can be loaded to some decent power levels. The Hipoint carbine is nice for the price too. If I ever find one under 150 I will buy it.

So that’s my random thoughts as a consumer not a owner. Let us know which one you end up with.

I have a Ruger PC-4 that I got in a trade and it's the first rifle any of my friends want to shoot when we go shooting. CDNN has a bunch for around $300.00 a while back.

I've had limited experiance with the Beretta and Kel-Tec, but both seem to be good weapons. A few year ago I had a Rossi .357 lever action and that was another really fun rifle.

My buddy has a Hipoint. It's ugly as sin, but shoots everytime he pulls the trigger and is cheap.

Another 1894c vote

It's a nifty little rifle and probably as versatile as any rifle out there.

I just posted a thread similar to this one last week and got a lot of responses.

Here is what I did, I got a semi-auto Vector UZI in 9mm with a .22lr conversion kit. Here is why:

1) UZI lore and history
2) UZI is more "evil" looking than other carbines
3) Availability and ease of changing calibers (.22lr, 9mm, .45acp, .41AE), literally takes 30 seconds to change
4) Super reliable
5) compact
6) Cheap and reliable hi-cap mags (20, 25, 32, 40 and 72 rounds)
7) All steel construction
8) almost no recoil
9) Easy to SBR and Surpress in future

I will add that:

1) if I already owned an AR-15, I would have just bought a 9mm upper and used UZI mags.
2) if the UZI weren't so great in so many areas, I would have gotten a Beretta CX4 storm because of the ergonomics.

How can you not want this thing?

As a recent marlin owner, I second ( or third) the marlin 1894 in .357. It is cheap to shoot with the .38s but can be loaded to a level un-reachable by any of the 9mm carbines. Plus is has a classic look( obviously not an "evil black rifle") if you care, and on a side note, it is the only centerfire rifle of mine that my wife isn't intimidated by.

If ya like the Storm.....an yer gonna get one "someday"...... may I suggest...

you have MADE your selection. Now just hitch it up an go get the Storm.

You KNOW you won't regret it, while anything else you get will just be BEFORE you get the Storm.

Just do it.

Jayhawker, I've heard other people complain about the trigger on the PC9, but I don't get it. Mine has a great trigger--crisp and clean. The only gun I own with a better trigger is my Tikka T3. I guess I must have gotten really lucky.

Mack69,

If you're a 1911 owner you might want to consider the Marlin Camp 45. I like mine and really appreciate the fact that it uses 1911 magazines.
