Looking for a .40, small hands

Same problems for me, more so due to fat fingers.

The best fit for me is really 1911 with a flat MSH, slim grips, and a short trigger. Medium trigger in the same configuration is on the edge of comfort.

M&Ps would also be worth a try. Both the fullsized and compact, with the small backstrap, are the best fitting double stacks I've tried. A bit long when the trigger is fully extended, but about as good as it gets after I take up the slack in the trigger. Reset is also pretty short, so my finger doesn't have to shift from the optimum position to reset the trigger. A Bowie Tactical short trigger job would take care of that.

I too have small hands/fingers, and I have had luck with the Springfield XD, Taurus 145, and currently I'm shooting the M&P40. The Smith allows you to use different palm swells, which is very nice.

I have extremely small hands and held a Glock G22 yesterday and must say that the grip wasn't big, I'd say more for medium hands. Anyone know which grip is bigger the G22 or the USP?

I have smallish hands, and I love the G27. Also, even though I hate the XD (ford vs chevy) I've held an XD in .40 and it does have a smaller grip than a G27, so check them out. I've also held a Kahr, and I really didn't like it but again, small grip. Good luck!

I had a grip reduction performed by ROBAR on my wifes Glock 23. Made the grip darn small and now her tiny hands fit the Glock.

Ergonomics is a fickle thing.

My advice would be to visit a well stocked gun shop and explain your problem. If the clerk is not a complete biased idiot, he should be able to help you out. Or if you have a favorite shop that you visit regularly, ask them.

Ask to see several candidates. Try each one and buy the one that fits the best!! ;)

I have small hands, and couldn't reach on my S&W M457, but a 1911 fits perfect. An XD in 9 and .40 fits perfectly, .45 is just a hair of a stretch. But for some reason, M&P 9 is a reach.

Go to a well-stocked gun store, and do some fondling.

But a 1911 with flat mainspring housing should get you pretty darn close.

I have the M&P40. I use the smallest grip insert. My wife's hand is very small and she has little difficulty with the M&P...my .02

It's too bad. I own almost every gun suggested thus far and I dont mind sharing. The Walther P99 is an excellent gun for small hands. The backstraps really allow you to tailor the gun to your needs. The XD-M also affords this option. The Sig P229 is also of uneniable quality and with the short trigger really fits the hand well. The grip is a bit wide, but I also have the Hoque Monogrips on mine. The Glock G23 is a bit awkward at first, but I've grown accustomed to it. If I could only keep one, it would have to be the Sig if thats any help. Good luck.

The xd9 or 40SW, although both have the same grip and the same thickness. Compare it with a like cal in Glock, SIG or any other semi auto. You'll see/feel the difference, but keep in mind the XD's are not lightwheights. They are heavy.

I have large paws with semi long fat fingers.

But if you can't make a 1911 fit I don't know WHAT to tell you!

And I have never taken to .40S&W but I sure do like .45ACP!

Walther PPS in .40

Single stack and perfect for small hands. Has interchangeable back straps also.

H&K USPc .40

Sig P239 w/ short trigger

Two great guns that work well for small-medium hands.
